Almost Done!

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

I have/am taking Microbiology. Today we did presentations in class. My lab partner and I did Shigella and Shigellosis Dysentery. Fascinating stuff on a rather nasty little bacterium. You only have to ingest ten of the little dudes in order to suffer through some of the most nasty diarrhea imaginable. In fact, this little bacterium is able to pass plasmids to other bacteria, enabling them to produce Shiga toxins which is what is happening in the most recent outbreak of E. Coli in Germany right now.

Other groups did other topics of course and all the groups except one had each member talking about the topic. One group had three people and only one that talked about the topic! I felt incised as my partner is a quiet individual and she would rather not have gotten up in front of the group and talked. As you can imagine, since I teach this does not bother me and I feel like I could have done a bang up job....but it was a group project and should have been equally shared, at least in my mind. I guess we will see when the grades are delivered tomorrow.

I am off to swim and then home to study before going for a bike ride this evening. Tomorrow is more review and the final test is on Thursday. Wish me luck because I am finding it really hard to study....I am tired and just a tad cranky.

I applaud you for taking Microbiology Pat. It sounds very interesting but would be boring for me to study it. Congratulations on your fortitude and ambitions. I'm sure the instructor will take into considerations that you did most of the talking. Best wishes on your final grade. Let me know how you did. emoticon

Good luck with your final! I would be a little cranky too! The heat doesn't help either. I agree that when it's a project with more than on person, all persons should be involved in the presentation. That's what I always hated about team or group projects.

No point in trying to study in that frame of mind and state. You are better off taking a power nap, then do something fun, then settle down to study. Hope your marks are okay and BEST OF LUCK with the test,
P.S. if it was me, I too, would not be the one going up to speak, so I feel for your poor lab partner :( But it shouldn't be a public speaking contest I would hope. It should be the material that counts..
