Texting in Church!

Since when is texting in church acceptable??????

My husband is beside himself over this. Three years ago a family left because my husband called the teen out during service after previously talking with her, then family, and it continued. Big hoo haw.

NOW, there's another teen girl doing this, all during the service her face is stuck in her screen, oblivious to the sermon, whatever else is going on. Grandma and Grandpa sees this and say nothing.

My husband has spoken to the girl, and Sun. the Grandma.
What ever happened to respect in God's house??? I'm afraid there is no "real" churches left in this country if this is happening everywhere. "Church" is no more. It's a community center for fellowships, get togethers, a country club.

My husband may lose his position here because of these "toys".

These "toys" are the ruin of common courtesy.

Oh yes, the Bible is on the "toy", but there are Bibles provided, no need for those gadgets that are so distracting. A message may pop up and there you go, on a rabbit trail away from worship.

Anyone else upset by this phenom?

    I agree 100% also. My girls both tried this during church. You can bet that started and stopped in the same minute! It is the rule that if they are going to bring the gadgets to church (which is another issue I have but one fight at a time)then they are put away from the time they walk in the door until they walk out the door.

    The family rule applies. If we are all together (dinner, church, whatever!) the gadgets are not part of the get together.

    It is unfortunet that the families of these teens are so disrespectful in God's house and too the pastor of the church that they allow this. Also, I believe your husband is totally within his rights to call out these teens and their parents for this blatant disrespect of both him and God. If the parents aren't going to teach basic common courtesy and respect than someone has too! emoticon to you and your husband for fighting the good fight.

    I agree 100%! There is a time and place for everything, and church is neither the time nor the place for texting.

    I personally had a Bible, but gave to my sister since I have the app on my phone, which is very convenient especially when I am somewhere and I don't have a Bible with always, but I do all the time on my phone, so when I have to look up a scripture pretty quickly its there. But, when messages pop up I ignore them because I DO respect God's house.

    I have noticed a lot of teenagers texting in church and me I do "call them out" on it because it is WRONG!!!

    Yes, I would definitely say that is inappropriate.

    It sounds like your husband is the minister - could he just make a rule that "no electronic devices" are allowed. That way he would be including cell phones, etc. (which should be turned off anyway!).

    I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU AS FAR AS TEXTING AND CELL PHONE USE. I GET SO MAD AT MY FAMILY WHEN THEY START USING THEIR PHONES DURING DINNER OR WHILE WE ARE SPENDING TIME TOGETHER. NOW I HAVE STARTED PUTTING ALL OUR TECH GADGETS IN A BASKET WHILE WE ARE EATING AND I MAKE SURE THE TV IS OFF. THOSE THINGS CAN ALL WAIT UNTIL WE ARE DONE EATING, ETC. I CANNOT IMAGINE USING THEM WHILE IN CHURCH....VERY DISRESPECTFUL!! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY THOUGH!! emoticon
