Conversation on Conditions

This is a revealing conversation I had with a friend this morning:
Me: poke. you up early...and without my world-famous wake-up call!
Friend: Good morning! Yeah, I really am. Too early, actually. Haha, I remember the wake-up calls! How are things for you today?
Me: Nice. Pleasant
It feels like an excellent day for dancing. And I just discovered an EPIC pagan chant!
Friend: oh, very cool! I don't know about the dancing part though, not really something I do.
By the way, I liked your poem yesterday, it was quite good
Me: dankeI'm working toward producing one new poem a week, and some times they really do take that long - depending on what else is happening in my life.
That one took me about 10 days
Friend: Keep it up, I like reading them and writing is very good for the mind
Me: And soul.
And, in my case, body.
When I am focused on doing things that make me feel good and accomplished (writing poetry) I am more likely and willing to also be doing things are better for me over all (like exercising and eating healthfully).
F: Oh, ok. Now I get the connection. I wasn't quite sure what you meant by that
M: Its all connected.
Everything I do sets the conditions for my life.
I choose what those conditions will be.
F: Hmm. I guess that would be a truth with most people
M: But not you, of course.
Always the exception that proves the rule.
F: Well, I don't know. I couldn't say one way or the other about that. I work to improve the conditions of my life, choosing a path and a goal. I suppose that would be the same as choosing conditions.
M: What I'm saying is that I choose how to fuel my body, I choose how to expend my energy, I choose how I respond to stressful stimuli, etc. And by making those deliberate choices, I set the conditions for my life.
Goals and paths and all are helpful, but what it comes right down to is how we participate in our lives - most specifically, how we treat our bodies and how we manage our emotions.
And when you've got those two things in line, you are setting the conditions for your life.
F: Ah, I see. I think we all make those same decisions, but the difference is that most people are unaware that they are making them. For the most part, I think it's a reflex action the same as breathing. You can choose how you breathe, but even if you don't make a choice, you will still do it anyway.
M: Right - you can't choose THAT you breathe. But you can choose HOW. I think the same is true of eating, and managing emotions.
F: Sure it is. I mean, if I were to let my emotions carry away my common sense, I would most certainly be in prison. Most people would.
M: Those choices are available to everyone, given the right tools. and once we realize that we do have control of our choices, we magically have control over our entire lives. We may not control the circumstances, but, we can set the conditions.
that is what I am working toward.
and I am a work in progress. By no means do I have it all figured out - but, my rightful power has been restored to me...and now its up to me to make corrections in order to be where I want to be, and in the conditions I want to be in...
