Run (?) in the park - C25K W2D1
Friday, June 24, 2011
Since it has been raining the past few days I have not gone to the park to do my C25K sessions. I am trying to do it on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Got the Monday one in but because it was raining on Wednesday morning those voices in my head decided not to even get on the treadmill and do it so I took the day “off”. Thursday came and again the rain and again those voices. But the voices also told me I did need to get the running in at some point during the day since the 5K is only a little over two weeks away (okay panicking here).
Luckily I listened to the voices and after my last conference call for the day yesterday I went down to the basement to use our treadmill. We have had this treadmill for almost 15 years. Still in good shape but does have a speed issue that recently surfaced. Seems that when you push the button to slow down the speed it doesn’t do it unless you hop off and wait for it to slow down. Slight aggravation but not a show stopper. I adjusted. It also does not show what speed you are at but that I am not so concerned about because I need to be at a comfortable speed and the actual number of that speed is immaterial to me really.
So yesterday I did W2D1 on the treadmill which entailed 90 seconds of running and then 2 minutes of walking. 90 seconds on a treadmill seems easier than outside. I felt like I was running as fast as I do outside but my heart rate did not say that. I had to crank up the speed to get my HR to match what it is outside. (Gotta love a heart rate monitor. Cannot live without this thing). My legs were more tired at the end than they do when I go to the park. Thinking that is because the treadmill is old and the surface is not ideal at this point…? I wasn’t gasping as I usually do either. I did end up burning about the same amount of calories. Am I getting better with the breathing or is it cause I am on a treadmill?
Rain again today so the plan is to again do the treadmill tonight after work. I am trying to get back on Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule with the Day Ones being on Monday. Mondays always seem to be a good day to start something…or maybe I will have more success bucking pre-existing thoughts and starting the week in the middle of the week…hmmmm.
Side note: Scale showed 3 pounds down this morning. Official weigh-in is not until tomorrow morning (at Weight Watchers). Gotta keep in control today.
