I Hope You Dance

Thursday, June 23, 2011

I've been meaning to write this blog for over a week now and I'm finally getting to it.

Last week at Zumba, our instructor used the song, 'I Hope You Dance' (LeAnne Womack) as our cool down song. I've heard this song about a thousand times and I've always thought it was such a great message, especially if you have kids.

However, it never affected me before like it did that day. I'm going along, doing the cooldown routine and tears just start pouring out of my eyes.

I guess since I've finally been nurturing and encouraging the explorative side of me and trying things I've never done before, this song just has a whole new meaning.

The one lyric especially, 'If you get the CHOICE to sit it out, or dance....I hope you DANCE.' That's it. That's what it's all about. I've wasted so much of my life sitting it out and now, for the life of me, can't remember why.

So, please, don't sit it out. Enjoy your life, make the best of what you can and if you don't like what's in front of you, physically, emotionally, mentally, CHANGE IT! Life is too short to not drink every drop of happiness you make.

I cry when I hear that song too. Weight-loss and lifestyle change is definately about dancing and not sitting it out, so to speak. That was the main reason I started this adventure...because I never again wanted to turn things down or shy away from doing things just because of my weight!

Mom used to say "Old to soon, smart too late". Just imagine if we had understood ourselves while growing up. Self exploration can be painful sometimes, but it is so healthy in the long run.
    Happy for you!

I am dancing as fast as I can!!:)

This is a great blog. It's amazing how making one positive change in our lkives can open our eyes to so many other opportunities. Cherish that you got to have that moment.

I had a similar reaction to the song Landslide: "Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you. But time makes you bolder. Children get older. I'm getting older too." I think every once in a while it just *really* hits me that these changes are HUGE and that I waited so long out of fear... saying I didn't have a choice... when really I was just afraid to take the path I'd never been on.
