Watermelon is better than chocolate cake!

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

emoticon I thought I would never say that! But, yes! Last week my 7yr old daughter and I came to the conclusion that we prefer watermelon over chocolate cake. This was decided after having chocolate cake for desert on Father's Day and while cutting up (and eating) a watermelon for a late night snack. We both felt sick after the cake and couldn't even eat the whole peice that we had. I'm so proud of us!

I've been getting in some exercise every day and have been eating really healthy. I'm hoping the scale shows my efforts because I have been trying really hard. Granted, not as hard as some people here in Spark is, but hard for me.

Onto other news:
My husband...I'm really worried about him! He doesn't take care of himself. I know it and he knows it. Now, he works 3 days a week for 13.5 hours a day. I always pack him a lunch and snacks to get him through the night. But last night I get a text from him while he's at work. It's not even halfway through his night. He says that he just had a sugar attack that caused him to eat all his food just to stabalize himself and feel partially normal. I had to have a friend come and take him more food to get him through the rest of the night. This has never happened before. I have informed him that when he has insurance that he is going to the doctor for a complete physical and bloodwork to make sure he is okay and to work on getting himself healthy. I told him if he doesn't want to do it for himself then to do it for me and the kids.

I hope that he is OK. You are doing a great job taking care of him but in the end he will have to make the decision for himself. It is so hard to watch someone you love not love themselves as much as you love them. emoticon

Thank you both. We don't know if he is diabetic or not. He hasn't had a complete physical for as long as we have been together and that's been 14.5yrs.

Oh yes! I am really preffering the healthy foods over junk. Although today I did have a Mounds bar. I love those things!

emoticon You seem to be doing great! It's funny how much we sometimes take fruit for granted when it comes to wanting something sweet, it's sweet, delicious AND healthy! I think I'll go have some strawberries now.

A checkup sounds like a good idea for your husband, hope all is well with him!

hi there - cudos on making better choices and doing it right for your family.
is your hubby diabetic - if so - his best friend to have on hand for a 'sugar low' is one of those small portable bottles of REAL ORANGE JUICE . not pretend stuff - real pure OJ. just 4oz will stabilize him. he should also have a little protein with it, 12 almonds or walnuts, or tbls of PURE PEANUT BUTTER , not the sugary mixed crap or a hard boiled egg. all of this is very easy to bring to work - if he has a fridge there he can leave stuff in case he is caught longer on his shift. a bag of almonds in the car comes in handy and for REAL EMERGENCIES ONLY a can of real COKE COLA - not diet, and it is not to be had just for fun. it is for driving and a low might occur.
he has to do it for himself - doing for the family or you will not work in the long run. i hope it starts him down the right road but in the end HE HAS TO WANT IT for himself - believe me i have been thru all of it. good luck and all the best BB
