Getting It Done Again

Sunday, June 19, 2011

My son is working 4 days in a row and in the first 2 days he worked 20 hours so he is exhausted and his feet hurt.

Yesterday we got up early, went to the bank, and then to my MIL's house. They shut off the water when they promised they wouldn't. So we spent the day trying to get the yard cleaned up as the early part of the day it was cooler down there and the yard was a mess. We hauled off 10 contractor bags full of junk. The neighbor is letting us use a dumpster they pay rent on. We dug up that hideous clothes line and the neighbor was nice enough to haul it off for me. Stuffed the holes full of potting soil and dirt. Cleaned out that dog pen. Looked inside that storm shelter and it had 3-4 feet of water in it with bags of floating who-knows-what. Hauled off more cat poop and broken yard art. Cleaned up behind the shed which was stacked full of rusted trash. Took everything out of the sunroom and started trying to get the rust off the tile where my MIL had rusty metal cans on the floor. Took out the decayed mice. We worked 12 hours yesterday.

Last night the weather radio went off all night long. We had some limbs down but people in the county below us had quite a bit of damage.

Today we went back and I finished up the yard. We hauled off another bag full of broken yard art and planted some hen and checks my MIL had growing in pots in the empty beds in front of the house. We then filled holes in the wall in the sunroom, fixed the pet door, cleaned the wall, mopped the floors, and painted the window sills and molding. It looks great and is our first room completely done. We left earlier today and went to Burger King to get hubby something for Father's Day (other than work). LOL.

Sounds like you are making a bit of headway.
You won't know what to do with all your time when you get done with this.
Has your husband been able to even mourn her loss with all this stuff that has been heaped up on him?
I know mom has not been able to mourn Syls loss with all the stuff she was left with since Syl didn't have a will. I feel so bad for her. It is all coming to a close now, so then mom will finally have some closure.
Hope you are all doing ok and getting as much rest as you can.

Sounds like you have made a lot of progress. Do hope Ian's feet are doing better. Insoles/inserts and a comfortable pair of shoes should help with that. emoticon to you all on the wonderful job you are doing with MIL's house.

You all sure are putting in a lot of hours :) There's a house across the street from me which is being cleaned out for auction. Lots of trash has been set out and many trailer loads of stuff hauled away.

Your MIL's house is starting to sound like what Bill and I would have had to face if we had been able to take on the task of rehabbing my ex's house! I sincerely hope that, when it sells, YOU will get all the proceeds, but I don't expect it will happen that way.

The ex's house, by the way, is still standing (Delia and I drive by every few weeks), but the trees are being taken down. That's sadder than the house being bulldozed, in my opinion. It isn't the trees' fault! emoticon

Sorry to hear that Ian is having to work so hard, but at least he's employed and getting paid.

I'm getting behind on Sparking, but I do try to keep up with your blogs, whether or not I comment.

I would send you some matches but you've already put too much work into MIL's house.

I will keep your number handy for the future when I have to go through my parent's house....

Slow but steady progress!! I bet MIL's neighbors are very happy you are cleaning up the yard!! It's nice that they are helping when they can. Poor Ian--it's either feast or famine!! No work or a ridiculous amount!! Hope he gets a bit more balance soon. We had a good day---daughter, hubby and kids were here. Lots of craziness!!!! We celebrated Father's Day and my son's birthday. Lots of fun but I am exhausted today. I think I may just do the bare minimum to get some semblance of order to the house!!!

Dear M it's too bad that all of this work has to be done by you. I am sure you prefer to do it yourselves but this seems so odd that all this is left up to you and yours.
I thought there was another family member who should be helping, I do imagine though you still prefer to do it yourself.

I hope this is over soon. Do you have any idea how long this will go on?
I sure hope not too long do take care and try to rest up.

I went to Wal-Mart and bought some memory foam cushion soles and I got some relief. DH bought some after I did and they work for him too. They are not as expensive as the Dr Scholls and not as bulky as the gel soles. Perhaps they would help keep his feet comfortable. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
