Day 29: Race Cancelled!

Unfortunately, the race I was planning to do yesterday ended up not happening.

Really disappointing. Especially considering that I know of no other 5k races in my area until Christmas.

I'm going to have to broaden my search. Or just race against myself in the park.

On a positive note, I finished the express C25k program on Spark and now am officially a runner.

Yesterday I hit the gym in the morning: 40 minutes on the bike and upper body strength training. In the evening I went out for a run and did 5k in about 35 minutes.

Today I walked to the gym, did 30 minutes on the spinning bike, ab strength work and then another 900m swimming workout.

While I have seen NO results on the scale for the past two weeks, I have seen fitness improvements:

- I can hold plank for EIGHT breaths!!! (This is a big deal for me. I think the swimming is really help on my core and upper body strength.)
- I can run for at least 40 minutes without stopping.
- I can swim 8 laps in a row without stopping to breathe.
- I can feel myself getting faster in the pool. (It would help if I could see the clock and actually know how long it takes me to do a lap. Maybe some contact lenses are in order as a goal reward later on.)

I honestly don't know if I will be able to compete in the triathlon one month from now. I do know that I feel healthier than I have since 2008, when I was also working out on a regular basis. And I am in better shape now than when I weighed 15 pounds less then.
