Bicycle commuting, day 11
Saturday, June 11, 2011
Yesterday was still hot, but it was (thankfully) a few degrees cooler than Thursday. I completed my round trip uneventfully, by bike. I was a little bit slower than usual on the way home, which is not surprising, considering my increased mileage this week. I completed 7 out of 10 possible one-way trips to/from work, which is a new high. My previous high was 4 or 5, I think. Including my 30 mile leisurely ride last Sunday, that adds up to 100 miles for the week. A significant accomplishment!
Today I am giving my legs a well-deserved rest from cycling, although I am planning to do some core exercises later. I've read that a strong core is very important for cycling, so I am going to renew my efforts to strengthen mine.
Later on, I'll be serving food with my stepmom at a homeless shelter for women. Afterwards, we'll be going out to dinner to celebrate my daughter's 17th birthday (How did she grow up so fast?!) My husband is in New England for his umpty-umpth high school reunion. Tomorrow, we'll all invited to a backyard barbecue. I may go out for a ride before that, depending on the weather.
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful summer weekend!
