You know when you have a really good excuse, you think it is a reason?

Saturday, June 11, 2011

There is NO reason
to act against your better judgment
to move away from your own truths
to stop exercising (unless you are injured)
to be careless with your nutrition

Yet I used the excuse of an extremely difficult situation to do just that. Diet and exercise, who knew? Well I knew. I had successfully lost 80 pounds. I was keeping it off when I stopped doing what worked. Because chocolate cake and wine were going to make it better! Or more accurately I was going to focus on it later.

Well, welcome to my later. Later where I have left a toxic job and moved 1200 miles away. The frogger and I are now sharing a house in the Houston area with a friend, while I find new employment and she retires. Our friend is gracious and generous and has severe health problems. We are seeing if we can be a support to one another.

We've been in Texas two weeks. I now have internet access and gym access. This is my later where I admit that taking a break from health and fitness didn't make me happy and didn't take me where I want to be. This is where I am not using the excuse of "stress" (job hunting, new living situation, etc.) to stop exercising and eating healthy.

This is my record of how I lost weight and got healthy.

PS: I got out my Bisbee 1000 shirts and read the names of all my Spark Buddies which are written there. You guys are still in my heart.

It's nice to hear from you Deb - it's disturbing to me that it's for something that sounds so similar in my own head. After keeping off the weight - the creep has crept & I've gained 15 pounds. I day dream about ice cream sundaes and I have a hard time remembering to make time to exercise. It's rough out here without Sparkpeople -- like you I'm realizing that I need to come back to it.

I've never stopped tracking my calories, I get so frustrated because it appears that I will be forever stuck at consuming only 1600 calories a day or less in order to not gain weight. I think that by spending more time on Spark I will have better success at quieting the voices in my head that tempt me with sugary treats. :)

Give Frogger a big hug for me and best wishes on your move to Texas! And welcome back to SparkLand :)

You know what they say - sometimes life gets in the way. But the great thing is you're still in control -- you know what needs to be done and are getting busy. emoticon

Sorry you've had such a rough time, but it sounds like you have finally arrived where the universe says you should be right now. Something tells me your gracious host/hostess will love and appreciate and benefit from the company of you lovely ladies! Win win.

So glad to see you around -- missed you!

Hooray....Hooray.....Hooray!! I thought I was hallucinating when I saw my favorite cat wearing a lime helmet! I must be on the wrong page.......whooooo hooo she's still kickin'! Yay!

Sorry for all the junk you've had to endure, but you've made a clean break from the craziness and you'll be putting us all to shame with your doggedness. But we'll happily stick around for the dry wit and we like your choice in red frogs! lol

Crossing my fingers for the right job, the right house, the right everything! Luckily you can control your healthy lifestyle.... as I recall it started with "put the donut down and go exercise."

    You made my day!

I realized in the last 17 months how often in the past I would make excuses to eat that are for the most part irrelevant. I know I would look at junk food and think just what was good enough to excuse breaking my "rules." Or it would be because of emotion. Or fear of deprivation. Blah blah blah. (Of course, when you're in the middle of all that, it doesn't seem trivial. Later, you can see it.) I'm not perfect now, but I am so much more aware that nearly all reasons to eat besides hunger and OCCASIONAL pleasure or soothing are just not good reasons. They just don't WORK to bring me peace and vitality. It's not moral; it's not puritanical. In fact, it's the opposite of puritanical because I take immense pleasure in the food I DO eat, and I get pleasure from the lighter feeling I have much of the time. Nothing to do with being a good girl. emoticon
