As part of Week 1 for the Challenges for Sparkers with Lots to Lose's Summer Slimdown, I am supposed to list my goals for the summer here. We had to choose 5 goals that we hope to have achieved by the end of the summer. These goals don't necessarily all have to be related to weight-loss, so I specifically included one that isn't.
Goal #1 - I want to be able to run a 5K in less than 40 minutes.
I have started the C25K program several times, but I never get far because I get bored. Instead, I have been working to just increase my speed and distance as I build up my endurance. I may give C25K a try one more time just as part of my cross-training, but I'm not sure yet. Either way, I've been enjoying running again and hope to enter a 5K in the fall once this heat cools back down some.
Goal #2 - I want to get my down into the 140s.
I've accepted that the last 10-15 lbs is going to be a serious battle to lose. I've been fluctuating around 150.xx for a couple of weeks now. I don't think it's a plateau as much as my body just fighting me to hold onto those last pounds. I actually weighed in this morning at 149.6, which put a big smile on my face, especially after the week I had. I am also realistic and know that it may go back up into the 150s again. I'm not giving up - I want to be in the low 140s by the end of the summer. I also set a reward for myself attached to this goal - I'm splurging and getting myself a new pair of cross-trainers. My current pair of tennis shoes were purchased almost 2 years ago. I never wore them so they held up... now I practically live in them and it's about time for a new pair. I figure that once I'm in the 140s for at least 10 days and still showing signs of going down rather than up, that will be the time to earn my reward.
Goal #3 - Walk/Run at least 10 miles this week.
This is a goal I decided to set to help me get moving on my running. It also allows me to take breaks to slow the pace down in between running days. My knees don't like when I run more than 1 or 2 days in a row, so walking will allow me to still get in some miles without killing myself.
Goal #4 - Spend at least 30 minutes outdoors 3 days each week.
Living in the deep south means hot days and high humidity, which makes staying outside for long unbearable. Even getting into the pool this week hasn't been fun because the water is more like a bath than a pool. When you're wanting to cool off, an outdoor bath isn't going to work. The kids and I are starting to get up and get some outside time in first thing in the morning before it gets too hot. This allows me to get in some excercise time with them and they don't even realize it.
Goal #5 - To get my craft supplies fully organized (my non-weightloss related goal)
I love to craft and I love my craft supplies! Unfortunately, living in an apartment means I don't have space to have my own craft room. At the moment, all of my supplies are in 2 drawers of my dresser and on a shelf in our closet. They are as organized as they can get under the circumstances. We are, however, working to get a larger pantry closet for our kitchen, which means I'm getting the smaller one to move to the bedroom. This will be my craft closet. That should happen within the next month or so, leaving me the rest of the summer to finally get my supplies totally reorganized. YAY!!!
I didn't take any pictures at the start of Week 1 since I had just taken some a couple of weeks earlier... for those who didn't see it, here it is:
This is what I currently look like in one of my swimsuits. I have to admit that a year ago, I never would have taken a photo in a bathing suit of any kind, let alone taking a photo in a bikini. SparkPeople has been a huge part of me losing weight as well as meeting many wonderful people, several of whom have become close friends.
This summer is going to be an active one since several of my favorite SparkTeams are doing challenges!
P.S. I have updated certain parts of my SparkPage for those who haven't read it lately to see how I'm doing. :)
