Question for YOU spark friends

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Yes this will be a very short blog.

My question is this. How many minutes do you guys work out in a week and how many calories do you burn? I'm trying to set a good goal for next week and the week after especially since I'm starting the biggest loser challenge next week and I'm wondering if I'm working out too much or not enough ( I know there's no such thing as too much :P) But I am wondering what appears to be the norm for most people. Please post your mins/calories below.

I aim for five days a week, with a 2000 calorie burn goal every week. To hit my 400 calories burned in a workout session, that usually means at least a 45 minute run or 55 minutes on the elliptical (Watch the machine readings, though. My elliptical likes to tell me I burn 1000 calories an hour. Riiiight). Sometimes I'll switch things up and take an extra rest day during the week but do an extra hard workout on the weekend (so that's the day I might go for a new run distance for myself or do my gym triathlon).

Broken down into fitness minutes, I have to get my 1000 minute trophy each month. To get there, I try to hit 250 minutes a week which puts me well over my goal by the time the week is done. That averages out to 50 minute gym sessions most days, which is just about right for me.

I do strength training three times a week, but I'm sometimes bad about getting it in (working on that now).

I did have to build myself up to that, though. I started with 20 minutes in the gym and then slowly added an extra five as I could. I think an hour is about where I top out... I go longer some days, but most of the time I consider 60 minutes a 'long' workout. I try to alternate between longer and shorter so I don't get bored.

I try to get some type of exercise in every day if at all possible; even if it is just a 10 - 15 minute walk around the yard with my dog.

At a minimum I do 45 - 60 minutes four times per week alternating between hiking, biking, or jogging and I too am all over with calorie range.

When you set up your fitness & weight loss goals; Sparks will automatically give you a realistic calorie range. Have you played around with this on your Spark Page at all (based on what you plan or hope to do in your new challenge)?

30-45minutes of cardio a day x 4-5 days a week. Calories are all over the place with me though.

I'm not sure of the calories, it varies based on the activity. I usually get 5 hours a week which is a mix of cardio and strenth and split over 6 days a week.
