The Fast Food Experiment
Monday, June 06, 2011
Seven years ago today, my mom passed away. So on every June 6th, my dad and I take an hour long drive to the Wood Lake area here in MN to put memorials on her grave and my grandpa's.
Every time we go there, it is a custom of sorts to go to the Granite Fall's Hardees. I'm honestly surprised that McDonald's hasn't attempted to bring in their business, and push this place out, but this place is holding their own.
Since I knew we were going today, I made sure to do all my working out early and then researched things to eat. Turns out, they just introduced three different turkey burgers, all for under 500 calories. So, I decided on the BBQ Ranch Turkey Burger. I skipped the fries, which was soooooo hard because they make the best fries, and continued on my no pop journey and just got water. It was so good! Now obviously, it probably wouldn't be best to get this every day, but I was happy that they teamed up with Men's Health and are at least attempting to bring in some healthier options (they also have low-carb options and stuff) for people that want it.
To my surprise as we were sitting there, a good 1/2 to 3/4 of the people coming into Hardees were ordering the turkey burgers, too, so I thought that was really cool. I guess it is a popular item. A lot of people will eat healthier fast food if it is available. Way to go Granite! I really wish other places would attempt to follow suit. Even a lot of the salads are high in calories.
Well, it's supposed to hit 92 today with high humidity, so I am going to go find a cooler room to hang out in. Hope you all have a great day!
