The Hidden Value of Eating in

Saturday, June 04, 2011

I didn’t think I “ate out” all that often.. until I started tracking my food with Spark.

My boyfriend and I would grab breakfast at Dunkin Donuts 3 to 4 times a week. I would snarf down my meal in the car on the way into work. We share a car so it made perfect sense to us. We were the masters of time management. On average we would spend $10 a visit and eat about 700 calories worth of food.

We would also eat at subway 3 to 4 times a week.. Same idea.. I would have 6” in the car on the way to work (I work evenings) and the other 6” for my dinner break. I would choose the tuna and get provolone cheese so I was eating another 1200 calories for lunch and dinner. This isn’t including the cookies or bag of chips that I would select… with the raspberry iced tea… On average we would spend $18 a visit.

None of these frequent visits registered as “eating out” to us. This was just was a busy couple did for food during the week.

On the weekend we would go out twice. Once for a big breakfast at a diner.. and once for a big dinner. Calorie-wise it was outtasite!

We often snacked at home on the couch watching TV.

Even though we were both pretty active it is no wonder that we both gained a lot of weight looking back at it.

Since I have been cooking at home, packing lunches, and tracking like a Spark Goddess a lot has changed. My bank account is fatter, my pants fit better and I feel good. But that wasn’t the revelation.

For me wasn’t the cost (financial of calorie) of eating it that was a surprise. It is the way I felt! I am not as tired anymore, I don’t get sick to my stomach everyweek, and my frequent migraines have almost completely subsided.

To drive the point home.. my boyfriend really, really wanted to eat at applebees this past Thursday. I couldn't decide what to eat. So I ate 4 bacon cheese burgers and a handful of fries.. for those playing at home that is about 1,660 calories. I was cranky that I didn't pick something better and sad that I ate it.. but I got over it. Until I got sick!! Since I’d been feeding him home cooked food, and packing his lunches, he also got sick.

Wow.

It was so easy to gain weight, empty my bank account, and feel sick.

With the help of Spark it is even easier to get fit, save money, and feel great!!!!

The hidden value of eating in.. is access to the untapped joy hidden in you!
Spark on!!
