Greek Yogurt - YUM!

Thursday, June 02, 2011

I've heard people talking about greek yogurt for a while and I finally just broke down and bought some at the store this past weekend. I got the Fage brand and tried it with honey, and YUMMM it's like a little piece of heaven! SOOO creamy and tasty. Granted, it's not at all the same as ice cream (I mean really, nothing is), but it will so be my substitute. The 0% fat stuff is only 60 cals per half cup. It's crazy good!

I recently found greek yogurt too. I get Chobani blueberry or strawberry nonfat. Love it! I like the texture better than regular yogurt and the extra protein is a bonus.

I don't understand. I think it tastes like a lot of the other yogurts out there, just a little thicker. I don't get the hype, please explain why it's the newest thing.

Since Greek yogurt can be expensive, to make it cheaper you can actually strain regular yogurt. I used this:
You can also use a cheesecloth, but the strainer worked great.

Ohhhh, using it as a substitute for mayo is very interesting, I'm going to have to try it this weekend!

I use it ALL the frickin' time -- it's a fantastic substitute for mayo in salads (add some curry powder and maybe some Splenda to offset the bitter), or in deviled eggs instead of mayo.

Also in muffins to replace fat and some of the milk. Also wherever I'd use sour cream. Seriously -- I need to learn to make it because I spend so much on the darned stuff.

I think I need to try the Fage...I've tried other brands and haven't been too impressed.
