Excessive Use of Goblins

Wednesday, June 01, 2011

Some of you may or may not have noticed that I've put up pictures of little creepy critters with equally disturbing captions - they're called Goblins. First I'd like to point out that these are not my creations but the work of all of us as Sean Hexed, creator of A Gross of Goblins, would likely point out.

Goblins are the embodiment, or perhaps the manifestation, of the things that haunt and irk us; some people refer to them as devils some refer to them as gremlins. For this particular feature I have decided to highlight the beasties I've personally encountered and have tried desperately to escape from in the hopes that you may perhaps be able to identify the ones that visit you.

There isn't a moment to hesitate, to be coy or shy about the matter, goblins are in essence a very serious matter that must be dealt with. Left to their own devices even a single little critter can wreak havoc with your life. Unchecked for years we've felt the kind of grip these tiny vermin can take on us and impact our chances at success and happiness.

Are you having a sudden craving for decadent chocolate cake right now? Turn on the lights! Are you feeling a sudden onset of malaise? Quick, turn around! Is there a hopeless feeling developing in your gut that no matter how hard you try you'll never succeed? No time to lose; run away as fast as you can!

These little buggers are everywhere, they follow us where ever we go, find up in our best hiding places, sniff us out better then a bloodhound; but we can fight them, we can beat them if we recognize them and formulate a plan, set goal and little by little make progress; for nothing delights the goblins more than our failures, but work towards our dreams and we can starve them.

Ignore me if you will - but there is nothing worse than the consequences.

Certainly the Amalgam is the one that haunts and scares me most, of course to say that I am afraid to become it is a tad redundant. Lets try; I am afraid of becoming the thing that becomes all the things I'm afraid of becoming. Yup - redundant.

I hate to say that I am perhaps not as fueled by work-ethic and altruism as I would like people to think, when in fact it is often times fear that drives me. That is not of course to say that fear does not drive other men; the fear of being alone, fear of dying young, fear of the Lord, fear of inadequacy - that last one took Napoleon pretty far. The trick with fear, that is to say the skill you need when dealing with fear, is the ability to conquer it, to stare it straight in the face and fight with it for your life.

I love 'em. Thanks for sharing.

Are you this amalgam? (or trying to avoid being one?)

I kind of like the one that doesn't even bother trying. It looks really relaxed. LOL
