Current Daugther & Baby Update

Wednesday, June 01, 2011

My daughter was given privileges on Sunday to start doing walking to the gift shop, cafeteria and laundry room to get her out of bed and strengthen her muscles. After doing her laundry in the hospital laundry room she did start having contractions 3 minutes apart so back in bed she went. Monday & Tuesday she took minor walks without contractions or cramping.

This morning she had an ultrasound and all the weekly testing. Baby looks good and they could see his little lungs working away, heart beat is strong as were his punches and kicks. As usual he was active and uncooperative when they tried to take a picture. She did measure lower on amniotic fluid today then she was last week but was told not to worry they are keeping an eye on it. She will continue her med 4 times a day to stop contractions and will be allowed minimal walking time every day providing she is not currently having contractions or and signs of leaking amniotic fluid. Next testing will be scheduled for next week.

Long term she is scheduled to have an amniocentesis done on Monday, June 20th at which time they will check his development and size. Then they will conduct a test called Indigo Blue where the will inject blue dye into the amniotic fluid and will see if she is still leaking amniotic fluid. With this test there is a chance she could start labor. If she is leaking fluid they will induce her within that week. If she is not leaking any fluid and has no other signs of leakage or infection they will have her carry the baby until she goes into labor. Yes, that does mean she has a chance (although small) that she can carry him until August.

Thank you for the continued prayers, support and to everyone that has given her encouragement.

Continued prayers are with you and your family.

My oldest son was born at 31 weeks at 3 lbs 13 oz. Today is healthy as a horse! I agree, Neonatal care is phenomenal! Technology has come a long way!!

Stay strong for your daughter! And of course for your grandchild!

I have 3 grandaughters (from daughters who waited till they were in their late 30s) who were born 2 mos. early, 2 were a set of twins while their cousin had a mom whose blood pressure went thru the roof. It was a scary time but they are all over 2 yrs. now and beautiful and intelligent. Neonatal care nowadays is phenomenal. It would be best to continue the pregnancy but if he is born early there is a very good chance he will be fine. Being under constant care is the key.
