Catching Up - Goals May/June - 2 weeks to tour

May has gone quickly....another month that has seemed to pass me by while I wasn't looking. I haven't been as active on Spark as I'd like...still. But I still do come and read everyone's blogs....they're so inspiring.

As for this sure has been great to get outside....that's been the big thing this month I have been outside more so far this summer than probably all last summer combined....and we technically haven't even started summer yet. lol I also had last week off, which was a blessing. I've been struggling with my work and just not wanting to be there and trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. To take a little breather and relax and catch up on my reading/cleaning/sleep was a welcome break. J has even been in Vancouver for the weekend (since Wednesday) so I had the house to myself. It's been really nice to be on my own with the dog and just veg, go on bike rides, keep to my own schedule. I'm ready for it to be over her up in a couple of hours from the airport and can't wait!

In terms of my eating and exercise I would say I'm fairly on track. I'm concentrating on biking hard core right now. I absolutely love, love the bike trail up 91st street. It takes me right into the millcreek ravine and parks area downtown. It's about a 15 km ride one way which is perfect for training. It will be perfect for after training....riding in the parks is gorgeous with all the trees. My eating was actually better than usual for a vacation week. I did have a binge on the's always hard to stay completely on track when J is away. But I'm not going to beat myself up for it.

The tour is only 2 weeks away. I can't believe it's almost here. I don't feel ready but I do feel like I'll be able to make it. I have a feeling I'll just be able to push through and make to the end of those 2 days. It's a big goal to actually finish it....and I'm glad I've stuck with it and still have it as a goal to complete. I really enjoy biking and I'm hoping to learn more about bikes and repair and take it all a little further next year. J has said she is supportive if I want to take it further and get a new more high end bike. I think I would like feels so good to be on the roads.

As for my goals, I think I did okay this month.....there was nothing too hard core and everything fell into place.....

1. Complete the GoodLife gym enrollment and begin with a personal trainer. That should happen this week. We’ve signed up, received our membership cards and can get started.

-it's taken some time but I did have a first session with the PT and it went well. It's nice to have someone professional who knows my goals and will help me get there. The gym has been nice, really clean and's been nice to just go whenever and work's all so new to me being part of a gym but I think it will be a good investment. Plus I found out I'm 40% body fat (eek!)....another something to work at getting down!

2. Come up with a routine. A new gym membership plus training runs and bike rides are all colliding. Training runs for a 5k are on Tuesday nights….bike rides are on the weekend and one other night during the week. Yeah….I signed up for a 5k on June 1.

-schedule is as schedule does....?...I dunno, I haven't set anything in stone yet and that has been ok. If I find I have time in an evening I head out on the trails, or we go for a nice long walk geocaching, or head to the gym. It helps to be part of a running group and go to some spin classes or other such groups. They help me stick to a schedule better than I can do on my own.

3. Complete the To-Do list…...a never ending goal…….insurance and appointments are the big things.

-lots of things accomplished on the to do list this month! Our insurance is all squared away, set, pink cards in the cars and everything. lol SO glad that is done. Another big thing I got done is that I went to the podiatrist (FINALLY!) and found out I have supination. Basically my ankles turn outwards which makes my feet turn inwards to counter balance. I get orthotics on Friday. To think that this could be the end of my knee and back pain is incredible to think about! The doctor said it could take a while to get used to....I see lots of massages in my future. But if at the end of it I can run without'll be worth it. Hey, maybe I could even aim to do a half marathon one day....hmmmm.

So yeah, I'm in good shape regarding my May goals. As for's such a busy month with the bike tour, all things Pride, my choir's big closing concert is over 2 nights this year, plus we have a lot of smaller commitments to sing at this month. My goals are pretty much to stay on track, finish the tour and start training hardcore for the duathlon in August....or September. By the end of June I should have completed all 6 sessions with the PT so I should have a pretty good routine to follow. I'll also be getting used to the orthotics on top of it. I plan to set a chiropractic appointment as well to make sure my back is not seriously damaged....I still have a bit of lower back pain that just won't go away. Lots to get done this month....I'll be glad to see the dust of it all as it goes by me. :)

    Good luck to you, girl! You seem to be on track to reaching all of your goals.

    I have a gym membership that includes time with a personal trainer. I utilized him twice then stopped. He really worked me out and I know I need someone to push me, but I haven't made the time to start back. I've got to make a committment to that. My partner gets on me that we're paying $28 a month for something I'm not using.
