What was your wake-up call?.
My wake up call was when my weight started to effect my life with my friends and family.I also realized the toll it was taking on me physically, emotionally and mentally while i was working.I knew I needed to change or i was just going to get worse.
How did you go about changing your life in order to make the lifestyle change you were wanting?
I went ahead and joined Jenny Craig in July 2009 for a year so that I could jump start my plan and hopefully get things under control by the time the year ended.
Who has been your biggest supporter to help you in your lifestyle journey?
Everyone in my Family and a few of my closest friends have all been there to support me in my journey to a healthier life.
When and How did you find SP
-I knew that Jenny Craig was ending in less then 2 months so i went and browsed through my diet folder that i kept everything from health to diet information in and found an old email from back in 2010 from Sparkpeople.com and I decided that i needed to go ahead and join up..
When did you decide to join SP? I decided to join SP on 7/4/2010.
What is your favorite thing about SparkPeople.com?
At first my favorite things about SP was the support, trackers, blogs and other information that they provided. As time went on i discovered that what i loved the most was knowing there was other Community Teams that would help me through my journey and by them helping me I was actually helping myself too.
What diet plan are you going to be following?
I have a few that I mix up every so often to throw my body off so that I can loose the weight easier that way then what i was previously doing.
My first plan was Jenny Craig, Then it was the Curves diet plan and then because i was not seeing results anymore I went back to the Jenny Craig plan for two weeks. I did not do as well as planned on it so I am now back on the Curves diet plan and hopefully will see some results by mid June.
When you started SP what were your weightloss and/or health goals?
Be Active in my life physically, emotionally and mentally.
I want to be 150-160 pounds by 2012.
What where your biggest challenges or obstacles you faced when you first started SparkPeople.com?
1.My first most challenging obstacle was working on starting to put food in its proper place. I
know you are wondering what does putting food in its proper place mean. I think
you would agree with me when I say most of us use food as a way of dealing with
our emotions, problems and stress levels. Therefore we need to find healthier
ways for us to deal with those emotions, problems and stress levels we all have
and in turn start viewing food as a nutrition.
2.The next challenge that I had to deal with was what kinds of foods i was eating, how much of it I was eating and what foods I needed to watch out for. What I mean by this is that some of us know certain
foods can be either a temptation for us or can be foods that we know if we eat them
we will start gaining weight from that certain food. In order to solve that problem was for me to
eliminate them from my meal plan for awhile. When you look at my food tracker you
can see that I have tried to cut out certain types of Carbs and lowered how much
I could have in a day.
3.The last two issues that were difficult for me in my process was adjusting my mindset to how I felt about myself and food. Before i started dieting my mindset was that I was "I'm damaged; I don't deserve this; love is not for me; this will never work out; In feeling the way i did I would use food to numb myself and to hide the pain I was feeling. Food and Me became really good friends for most of my life. Now that i have embraced my new lifestyle change i am more focused on changing myself internally and also changing the way I look at food so that I will be able to handle whatever comes up and know that i can stay on track and not loose sight of the Carrie I want to become.
What was one of the biggest things that changed your life (as you know it now)?
The biggest thing that changed my life was coming home in February 2010 and being able to change myself and my lifestyle,behavior, and how my family interacts with me.
What are your favorite health foods: Salads,All fruits, Yogurt,,Cheese and Crackers.In general I have loved just being able to eat healthier.
What are your Most tempting Foods:
Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream,brownies,double stuff Oreo cookies, Chocolate chip cookies, Chips and dips,Pasta and bread ex San Fransisco Bread yummy. Also french fries, fish n chips, Chinese and Japanese food and Sushi
How do you resist it or what do you replace it with?
brownies I replace with granola bars with chocolate on the bottom
Ice Cream and Cookies I have a scale of # 1-20. It has to be a craving of 20 or above before i cave in and have some.
Chips and dips I limit myself to about .5 of chips and a tablespoon of dip. I only get that on special occasions like parties or holidays.
Pasta and bread I still have but replace the pasta with wheat pasta and the bread i again limit myself to 2 pieces.
Fish N Chips I rarely get so when i do end up going out to dinner or lunch and i have a craving for it then i will end up getting them.
Chinese, Japanese and Sushi I usually have once or twice a month and i just limit the amount I have and corilate it with my calorie count.
Do you like to like to Exercise? If so what kind of exercise do you do?
I love going to Curves, walking,sometimes jogging,,the elliptical Trainer, and stationary bike. Sometimes i will mix it up with adding weight lifting. Just recently i added Zumba to my work out and have enjoyed it.
What kind of exercise have you found the best for you to lose weight? I would have to say walking or jogging and then curves
What are your goals for the next two Season challenges? I want to loose 10-15 pounds so that i can get to my goal weight of 175 pds
Do you have any type of goal for 6 months from now? Six months from now I would love to be at 160 pds
For a year from now? A year from now I want to be at 145 pds
Five years? Five years from now I want to be 125 pds
Do you reward yourself for reaching certain weight goals? If so What's your next big weight goal coming up and is there a reward?
I do reward myself with non food choices after reaching my goals. My next goal is to reach 175-180 by the end of June. My reward for that will be an I Pod or a new cell phone. I am thinking the cell phone would probably be it since i destroyed mine when i was on my walk last week.
How do you gain motivation? I gain motivation in watching my transformation. If i need more then that I turn to spark friends to help.
What helps you stay so motivated?
I have a collage that i made that I stuck on the refrigerator that helps me stay focused on my journey. The other thing that has been a temendous help of motivation is just REALLY SEEING myself and knowing that even though i am not where i want to be i am still a WOMEN who is DESERVING/ WORTHY AND BEAUTIFUL. I do deserve my love
What is the biggest challenge or obstacle you face in losing weight?
Right now my biggest challenge is trying to master my life.I have never really been good at prioritizing or organizing things.It has been a major struggle for me throughout my life. I decided that I would start making a list of things that were important to me and go from there. First is ME,then Finding work, family priorities etc.
How do you keep the challenge/obstacle from ruining your goals? Remain vigilate on what I need to do to keep my goals in sight
What's the best advice you've received on Spark? Let us try this again with you being on the our team and trying the challenges - . I think you'll do better staying on track with the healthy eating and a better activity level if you're with a team that's pulling in the same direction.

In the 2 years that i have been on my journey to a healthier lifestyle i have lost a total of 80 pds. I finally realized that in order for me to keep my weight off and continue with the success of my journey I need to keep setting new goals for myself along with new dreams of a brighter future. I will always be a work in progress on this journey to a healthier life
