Day 15: Spreading the Spark to other parts of my life

Sunday, May 29, 2011

I did a short swim today - just 24 laps. I don't really have a swimming program, so at times I don't really know what to do in the pool. Fortunately, I found a great website on a link in the Swimming for Cardo team page:

And I plan on doing that from now on. One of the most frustrating things for me now (besides swimming suuuuper slooooow-mooootion) is that I can't go very far without getting breathless. This plan I've found gets you to the point where you can swim a mile without stopping. It doesn't tell you which type of stroke to do, just that you should gradually build to the point where it is all crawl.

On another note, I am trying to spread my little tiny exercise spark to other parts of my life, namely running a tight ship around the house and working on the phd thesis and research stuff for the foundation. As far as the housework goes . . . ehh. My spare bed is buried under a mountain of ironing and I don't even want to think about when I cleaned the toilets last.

However, on the thesis front we are making progress. I did four interviews this week and have started typing them up. I have a feeling that there will be a cascade effect, that once I stop I won't be able to stop. (Or so I hope.)

So here I am crossing my fingers and hoping to get SPARKED and INSPIRED and that my exercise success motivates me to seek success in other areas as well.

Sending a little inspiration your way (for the thesis!). I had 135 essays to grade this weekend...down to 60 now (will be done before Tues) so I know how tough it can be (and how good it feels when you get in the groove!). Exercising along the way will help, right?!

Way to add the Spark concepts to other parts of your life! When I was finishing my dissertation, I found that once I had my interviews completed, It was really fun to transcribe them and feel like I was moving on to another phase of my research. The data from my interviews seemed to jump off the page at me, and chapters 4 and 5 of my study really seemed to write themselves! I felt it was all down hill for my study once I started researching! I felt re-energized to add extra hours to completing my study, and could actually see the end in sight. Hope it goes smoothly for you too. Thanks for my goodie this week! Make it an intentional week!
