30 Day Photo Blog Challenge Day 17 - I'm trying this again!

So my three year anniversary came around and I disappeared from Sparkpeople...We went to an amazing dinner at this awesome place here in Seattle called Art of the Table. Five different couples sat at one big table and we all feasted upon 5 small delicious courses of food, each paired with a different wine. The chef would ring a gong to signal the start of each course and then talk us through what he'd put together, why he'd put it together that way, and where he'd found the food. I figured that this day only comes once a year, so I ate it all! Oh and it was delicious and local and all made right there in the kitchen of the little restaurant. Such a cool experience! After the anniversary, the quarter started winding down and I've been left with two big projects (both due this next week) before I can officially be in summer mode, so I've been neglecting SP and I miss it! I miss keeping up with what my SparkFriends are doing and tracking my foods meticulously (which I've still been trying to do)...

Well here's to coming back again! I didn't completely fall of the wagon and managed to maintain my weight, but I've been a slackin' in the exercise department. I'm taking a cardio kickboxing class with a friend at school and we've both had to ditch because of too much school work. I've still been working through my SP Rookie Running 5K Program though! I signed up for the Seattle Furry 5K in a few weeks and I'm hoping to be able to run the whole thing, which brings me to my picture for today!

Day 17 - A picture of something that has made a huge impact on your life recently

My shoes. My lovely five finger, monkey/frog feet, creepy, wonderfully comfortable shoes. Last summer, I did some research for the company I was working for on the benefits of minimal footwear (shoes that let your foot move naturally as it was meant to do) and found Vibram FiveFingers.

I got a pair recently and have been using this in the SP 5K program. They are awesome. Not only do I get funny looks from people, but it feels like I am running through the grass barefoot and fancy free like I used to when I was a little kid. My running form has improved...well...that's to assume I had anything that resembled form before I started trying this SP program. It's also weird...I don't know how it works, but when I run in these shoes...or anti-shoes, I get tired less quickly and seem to go farther. Without them, I feel like my running attempt would be much more difficult and I love to wear them so they help motivate me to get out and run. It may not be a huge life impact, but it's certainly changed the way I exercise, think about exercise, and heck, even the way I think about myself in terms of exercise.

    That is awesome! I can totally relate with how hectic school can be. Sometimes it's hard to find time to spark, let alone to work out or gain some sanity! Glad it's ending soon so you can have time to shift your focus!
