Cleaning out the kitchen

Saturday, May 28, 2011

So, summer vacation officially started for me today PTL. The first thing on my agenda, cleaning the kitchen!

I got up to the top shelf of my pantry and in the very back were three boxes of unopened Baker's unsweetened chocolate. I thought "Hmmm..I don't remember ever buying those." I looked all around the boxes. No expiration date. I went online to find out how long Baker's Chocolate will last and I read "Baking chocolate will last indefinitely." OK, GREAT! "Then I read "It's recommended that you not keep baking chocolate for more than 6 months." Well, I knew it had been at least 6 months.

Then I looked all around the boxes, trying to find some sort of clue as to how old the packages might be. I saw "Coupons enclosed. Please open carefully." Ah! Coupons sometimes have expiration dates! So I carefully opened one box. The expiration dates on the coupons was 6/1/98. I think I'll toss the chocolate!
