A Farewell to Can't

Saturday, May 28, 2011

As I was sitting on my floor reading through my most recent Family Circle magazine and thinking to myself that I can't possibly make it through this holiday weekend without gaining a pound or two, I came across this advertisement for

A coincidence? I think not.

"This goodbye does not make me sad. I will not miss you. I have discovered what it feels like to do the unthinkable. The hard. The long. The challenging. You have no business here anymore. From now on, difficult will seem doable. I will see the impossible as simply not-yet-conquered. Farewell, Can't. You will haunt me never again. Hello, Can. Welcome to my world."

I wish I could personally thank whoever wrote this ad. It changed my mindset today. Not just for losing weight, but for anything I put my mind to.

emoticon Can't. I can do this. We can do this!!!

Great blog--and GREAT motivational ad you found. I watched Oprah's last show--it was very motivational too, all about making this the best life you can, etc. I know Oprah hasn't been exactly successful keeping her weight off, but what she says can be applied to that realm of our lives.

I look for motivation wherever I can too. I buy Weight Watcher magazine (ended up buying one yesterday that I already had--ARGH!), I watch weight loss TV shows (can't wait for that new Extreme Makeover--Weight Loss Edition show to start next week), I read a lot of weight loss memoirs when I was losing my weight. I have been really struggling lately, after 45 days of maintenance (I'm still below my goal--but I feel like I'm hanging on by a thread--especially with the Holiday weekend!), so got out Diet Girl's (Shauna Reid)'s book, Amazing Adventure of Diet Girl and started reading it AGAIN. She tells of her journey going from 350 pounds to 175. It's really inspirational and motivational for me. But even Shauna has struggled in the last few years, since her book was published, putting 50 lbs. back on. She is still trying though--and that's the important thing I think. No one is immune from putting the pounds back on. But I won't let it get me down, I'll just keep trying, every single day for the rest of my life! You too!!!
