Sleepless nights
Friday, May 27, 2011
It's 3:36 in the morning and I am still awake. Not because I can't sleep...but because my mom has COPD and has to sleep with a bi-pap. She is in the final stage and has gotten progressively worse the last 3 months. In and out of the hospital and at one point my sister, niece and I even went to the funeral home to go over things. Thankfully, God wasn't ready for her yet so she's still with us.
We were told that if she doesn't sleep with the bi-pap that she will be back in the hospital much sooner (we've been 4 times since Feb 19th) and most likely back on the ventilator.
I use a C-pap and know how frustrating the masks can be. Fortunately, I've been able to start using the nasal canula. Mom doesn't have that option though. She has to have the full mask. It leaks so much it drives us both crazy. Me more than her because she can sleep through it. This is why I have sleepless nights! I stay up for hours after she goes to sleep so I can keep checking her every 15 minutes to see if it's OK or needs to be adjusted again.
This is not good with my fibromyalgia but it's all I know to do right now. I just take naps during the day. She typically can't keep it on all night so after about 5 hrs takes it off. Then..I go to sleep. Now, if I could just get her to go to bed before midnight it would be nice. Many nights it's 1:00 or 1:30.
The positive side to this is that I get to get on SparkPeople and post and get my points! Everybody have a great Friday!
