Coumadin Blood check -

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Okay, the last two blood checks were awful and the company sent out a new machine - just in case the first one was defective. Nurse Debi was once again on hand to help should we have problems again. And we did!!! I used the tube thingy to suck up the blood, it draws the blood up on it's own to a set line then stops pulling the blood in. I then put the tube onto the test strip and depress the bulb which pushes the blood out onto the test strip. Turned out the NEW machine didn't pull enough blood up into itself and then gave an error message. Second try did the same thing. By now Greg had had enough of being poked and decided to drop the blood onto the test strip directly - FINALLY it went through - PHEW! Now we know - he'll just have to take careful aim and drip the blood onto the test strip.

I REALLY dislike having to do this test!!!!

Greg's level has been erratic so the doctor would like it checked at least every other week. Because we check at home (on our own) the company we go through requires a once a week check.

That sounds very frustrating and I am sorry you both have to go through this. Sounds like you have the answer back to the old fashioned way!

What a mess..... it is stressful enough to have to do the test let alone manage a machine that doesn't always work correctly. So much for medical technology..... emoticon
