Does anyone know how to keep yourself from retaining so much water? It is nothing for me to retain 4 to 5 pounds of water. One day the scale will say a certain weight and the next day may be 5 pounds heavier.
First of all, be assured that it's not at all unusual for our body weight to fluctuate 4-5 pounds in a day -- that's why it's best not to weigh yourself every day (do as I say, not as I do, lol!) or to use the scale as your measure of success or failure.
That being said, I have a couple of suggestions for you since I just went through a water retention issue last week:
If you haven't already, add sodium and potassium to your tracker; you want to keep your sodium low and your potassium high (well, not TOO high! But, we usually get WAY too little of it). Once I started tracking these 2 micros, I broke through a brief plateau (see my blog today).
I also add the juice of half a lemon to my 27-oz water bottle a couple of times a week, and this past week I backed off on my workouts for a few days (your body tends to retain water initially as you build muscle -- see my 5/22 blog).
Most importantly, don't ever give up! As long as you're eating within your ranges and exercising regularly, the weight WILL come off, eventually! Hang in there, and BELIEVE!!!
