on a positive note...

Thursday, May 19, 2011

I slept well, woke with less low back pain than yesterday morning.

I accomplished 15 minutes morning pt stretching home routine. Then later did 25 minutes with weights at official pt.

My visit with my pcp went well. My blood pressure is great: 128/74, though my weight is not - due to the steroids now, and not fluid retention. Ugh. My doctor gave me some healthy snack suggestions, and a calorie intake range - she said I could drop it to about 1500, since eating at 1800 with less exercise is not going anywhere..

Back on the positive note - I "grew"! My height was 59 and 1/4 inches today at the dr's office, instead of 59 ". So yes, the anterior cervical discectemy and fusion DID add some height back. (I was 60 and 1/4 " before I "shrunk", and have been 59" for at least the last year, if not longer).

My blood work - no lupus, no Lyme, no RA. It does show I had some kind of virus, but no idea when, or what. My physical therapist is still thinking about it, wondering what caused it. He noticed after therapy, my face is breaking out again today. He said keep an eye on it. He thinks one of the tables that I lay on face down, with the face cut out, to lift hand weights may be a culprit! Interesting if that is the case. He thinks it could be a latex allergy. I am still semi-flushed - not a full rash. I will watch it today.

I am waiting to hear back from the surgical department about scheduling the arthroscopic knee repair - torn meniscus and lateral release.

On a funny note, I just got called outside by my husband's high pitched whistle. I thought he may have fallen, but no, thank goodness, that was not the case. He had climbed up to install a plant hanger on the side of the porch, and was up on the ladder, and his pants had fallen down (He HAS lost a lot of weight!). He needed me to grab the plant, so he could pull up his pants. I couldn't stop laughing, at least he didn't get hurt!

They should have a towel for your face to rest on instead of the bare table anyway. My physio puts one around the opening because he exerts quite a bit of pressure on my back when working it and it drives my face in that thing pretty good. I too am suffering a rash, but its because of the lotion my physio puts on to massage me :( I am allergic to most lotions..
Great news for your blood work and blood pressure! 1800 calories is high for no cardio. I get an hour of cardio and that is the top range Sparks gives me for it. Are you tracking your food? It really, really helps to stay on track to weigh and measure every little thing. Using Spark's Fitness Tracker and Nutrition Tracker has really made sure I know what to shoot for. When I have that foot surgery, I will have to set my Fitness Tracker back to 0 cardio, and boy does that make a difference in my calorie range (I had to set it for 0 for the month following my elbow replacement when I wasn't allowed to move it much.)
Do get tested for a latex allergy. You need to get that cleared up and solved before your next surgery..
That was too funny about your poor hubby.. Congrats to him on all his weight loss though!
Hope you have a peaceful and restful weekend..

I am glad they are narrowing down the cause of the rash. It is good to hear that things are starting to show good signs of improvement! Good for your hubby losing so much weight to have such a problem! Congrats to you both!

Oh that is too funny! Although I suspect your DH didn't think so! I am glad to hear things are going well at therapy. Do they put any type of cover over the table that you lay on-if not, maybe you could try that next time to see if it helps. Have a fantastic Friday!

Oh what a hoot for the poor DH, such a dilemma for him. Glad you rescued him or the plant or both.

You should check out the latex possible reaction, at least tell them you might be sensitive, I was told to by my allergist, I reacted positive but I have used
latex gloves for years and never reacted, He said if we even suspect you might be if you are having surgery tell them you reacted positive so they will take precautions.
I am happy things are moving along to have the knee surgery.
