Why do I torture myself?

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Why do I torture myself? Why to I put myself through such misery? I'm not talking about the countless hours of swimming, walking, biking, running, crunches, lunges, lifting, etc... I'm also not talking about thinking carefully about everything that I put in my mouth and tracking every last bit of it. I used to consider this torture. To me it isn't torture anymore. I actually love the exercise now. I desire the feeling I get when I'm done with a good workout. I can't wait for the next one. I also don't mind eating healthier foods and tracking everything. So what is the torture I'm talking about? Well, I'm glad you asked. To me it is now absolute torture when I don't stick to my plan for a day. I find myself feeling miserable and tired when I eat a bunch a junk, you know the stuff that I used to eat ALL the time and when I miss my workouts. I'm not talking about the guilty feeling that I used to get when I would cheat on my diet/exercise program. No, I'm talking feeling truly misserable. I realize that my body is rejecting this stuff that I have chosen to put in it. It used to be the norm, now it's just toxic to my existance. I'm glad that I've discovered the joy of healthy living, but I'm also glad that I fall off the wagon every once in a while and get that horrible feeling. It reminds me why I'm doing what I am and helps to sharpen my focus on my goals.

I feel the same way when I consume too many carbs. I wish I would avoid the problem but it appears with regularity.

Everytime I fall away I ask myself the same question! WHY???? I feel so good when I stick with my plan and so crummy when I don't. I want to feel good not crummy - so WHY??? If you find an answer give me a clue!!! In the mean time let's hope we have both stepped away for the last time!
