Thorns are sharp

Sunday, May 15, 2011

Yes, thorns are sharp.
Especially great big, raspberry thorns that are stabbing through a gardening glove while you're attempting to remove a wild raspberry path from a terraced garden.
Ow.
Spent a lot of time this week working on he gardens around the house. I didn't realize when we moved in in Nov. just how overgrown everything was. It took me a full day to pull all the weeds, and raspberries out of two of the terraced gardens by the back of the house. That sucked. And i still have the last garden, and the veggie patch to clear.
I did however manage to get some of the flowers planted. I hope the seeds take inthose gardens and I'm not pulling out more raspberries instead of flowers.
On a side note, i really don't have anything against raspberries, however, they are ALL over the property, and there's an acre here. They don't need to be in what's supposed to be a flower garden.
Getting away fromthe raspberries, I spent a while raking up leaves and taking them down to the compost pile at the far end of the yard. puching the wheelbarrow back up the hill to the house was tiring. But worth it! I was so happy to be getting my goal of having 30 minutes of activity outside a day. It was wonderful.
And then it rained. It started raining here on wednesday and hasn't stopped - well, it stopped long enough today for me to mow the lawn, that's it though. So, I had to modify my goal for the week. Instead of 30 minutes of outdoor activity a day, I opted to go for 30 minutes of activity at all. So I've been dancing around the living room with my kidlets when we can't go outside.
I think my husband thinks I'm insane. :)

We've got some wild blackberries growing in the edges of our yard, and I love them even more than if I had planted them! But I am having to teach my 17-month-old how to pick them--she goes for the red ones, and she hasn't yet learned about those thorns.

And I have to ask... don't you think "insane" dancing is the best kind? emoticon

Yard work is some of the best exercise you don't even realize you're getting! My husband does most of the yard work these days as I chase after the 10 month old (which I guess is exercise too!) Sell those raspberries, girl!! Seriously! Check with your local farmers market or even post it on Craigslist! Use the $$ to buy yourself some other healthy fruits and veggies!! Keep on keepin' on, and go BLUE!! emoticon
