The SP Grand Exodus - are you going too??

Saturday, May 14, 2011

There has been much comment about a spark member's blogs being removed and the member in question leaving SparkPeople. Many are following this member and leaving SP but before you do, make sure you are going of your own accord.

Some blogs really have been of "questionable" content - SP has to not only serve the public for free, but to remain free and available it cannot risk lawsuits, especially from content made by members.

There are rules and regulations for everything in life - I personally have been "mildly offended" by some blogs but I just choose not to leave comments on them.

If you wish to join what is being described as a "grand exodus" I will wish you well - but make sure you are following your own heart and not any mistaken beliefs. Do not follow blindly over the cliffs.

**edit: I do not know which blog was removed, only the blogger. I stopped reading the blogs months ago when they become TMI for me. (too much info)

There are others on SP that give TMI on their personal lives - this is their choice - I choose not to read them anymore.

I only learned of the problem through my "friend feed" and the blogging challenge I was involved in this past week with the 5% Spring Challenge Spark Team/Spirited Underdogs sub-team.

Yeah! I'm not going anywhere! This is actually the first I've heard of it! But if I read a blog and don't like what it said, I just don't go there anymore! To each his own as long as they don't try to force anything down my throat. I am really sorry if we've lost some good members in the fall-out, though. Maybe some will find their way back when they realize they've been like lemmings.
Sorry this hit the 5% challenge!!! It's too much fun and far too successful for folks to be that way!!! So, if someone doesn't like how something is done, they should quietly leave and let the rest continue to have their fun and successes as they come!
Carry on, LInda! emoticon are growing NO moss under our feet!!!!!! emoticon

Like you, I've been around for a long time and I'm staying.

This site has so many people who are busy with their own lives and at the same time doing what they can to be healthy that in point of fact it's a small minority of active folks who even know about the situation.

Having said that I hope that any who have left do well in their journey and when they need to, return following the policies and guidelines that have been in place to ensure this site is kept free. You never know, this particular "incident" may trigger staff to look at what they do have and re word as necessary so it's clear to all.

Have a great Sunday and thanks for caring enough to blog.

I am not going anywhere. As long as there is a SparkPeople, and as long as I have internet and the werewithall (sp?) to use it, I will be here.

I vaguely remember seeing a blog by a Jewish girl who used a term in her blog that could have been interpreted as anti-Semitic. The blog was deleted, and even though I did not see the original blog, I know what was said. I will not take a position on whether the blog should have been deleted, but it seemed like the whole incident then took on a life of its own. I assume this was Yoovie.

She made a comment to the effect that she got in trouble for stating that she was Jewish. I totally disagree with this. Many sparkers have stated their religious beliefs. I do remember one comment on a message board that I will not repeat here that was definitely offensive toward non-Christians. Even though the person who made the comment was called out on it, they never apologized (nor did they defend it; it was simply dropped), and to my knowledge the comment was not removed.

The whole issue of censorship, including deleting "offensive" content, is touchy, I know. I am sorry if a person who is creative and inspirational got caught up in this and decided to leave SP. Anyone is free to come or go as they please. But it doesn't affect my membership here.

Here's my thought: If you don't like it, don't read it. If Spark people is giving you what you need, stay. If you find the constraints too much, leave. I chose to stay.

I'm staying - see my blog for today!

No clue about this but sticking around. SP has been there for me so I see no reason to leave.

Today is the first day I have heard of all this but I am just thankful that all my friends are supportive and on the same wavelength. Cripes, the thought of not being able to turn to Sparks for support and just the day to day trackers has me in a sweat.

PS - not to mention the info, the exercise demos, etc. etc,. etc. emoticon

I have new clue who Yoovie is or what the broohaha is all about. Rest assured that I am not going anywhere. SparkPeopel has helped me tremendously and I have no plans on leaving.

Interesting that Yoovie is gone - I didn't know until I read this blog. I always found her style of writing to be pop, young, open, sassy. I do enjoy personal blogs, however, because it helps me know the person and their struggles. Questionable content? I mean, we all live breathe and think. We all do the things that come naturally. I don't get it.

Eek! SP grand exodus? Your blog title scared me half to death :) (I'm OK after reading it though) Good to see some integrity out there.

I agree. I missed the who-ha and only saw the aftermath.

My thoughts EXACTLY. Thank you for writing this. SP is a free gift that I've been given and I am sooo thankful for it.

*sigh* I don't like "mass exoduses". emoticon

I've not got the foggiest idea what you're on about Linda and I'm not a lemming either. emoticon

I'm here to stay! I joined spark to become a healthier me not to be popular. Friends of course are wonderful to have and blogs are a great way to vent and express yourself. But I am here for weight loss and that is it!

emoticon I am aware of what the fuss is about but have no inclination to leave. Every one is entitled to do what they feel is in their best interests. This site has a huge number of members and the fact that it is free and uses research to back up it's information, is a big plus for me! emoticon

I live by my own standards and what I think is right. If I start reading something I don't like, I leave it. When we joined Spark People, we knew the rules. The end!

I'm clueless, too, and I'm not leaving! This site is too good and too helpful to ever leave on account of someone else!

Gee, this is all news to me! What could provoke such action??

I, too, live in la-la land most of the time. No clue what is going on, but I'm not leaving.

I am also oblivious to the exodus, but either way I think I'm here to stay. For the first time in my life, I am not losing weight on a diet. I am making a healthy lifestyle change that will last a lifetime. I am thankful to Spark People and its community of members for making that possible.

WOW... Am I living in a vacuum? I don't even know a thing about this "exodus". I am here to stay. Spark People, along with the YMCA, has saved my life and the least that I can do is stay here and continue to get fit. It is part of my life to help give back a part of what I have so freely been given. Love ya, Dawn emoticon emoticon

I'm not leaving. I love this site. The SparkPeople team work hard to keep this site up and running. It cannot be an easy job. I have great respect for all of them.

I have met too many wonderful people whom I consider my friends here. My life would not be the same without all of you.

Well said! I am here to ...?

Well I keep living, breathing and being an example of healthy living. Spark helps me do this and find my motivation. I'm here for good and glad to have it. I so wish others could be as focused. Way to keep the focus on the reason we are here!
