Cheating or Lifestyle?

Monday, May 09, 2011

So yesterday, Mother's Day, I think I did ok. My day started out with going to an annual Boy Scout Mother's Day pancake breakfast. I had drank my hot lemon water before going. I am doing the 17 day diet and hot lemon water is one of its "things". I filled my water bottle before going too. When I got there, my boys were serving at the same table and took my order. I asked for eggs (scrambled was all that is offered) and fruit. emoticon I passed on the ham (I don't eat ham). I also passed on the pancakes emoticon emoticon and bagels w/ cream cheese.

Lunch was a huge salad and turkey chili. Afternoon snack I had kefir smoothie.

Then came dinner. We went to my brother in laws/sister in laws. They had spinach/mayo/watercress dip (Knorr) with bread. They had veggies with 2 other types of dip. And they had wheat thins. I ate one snap pea and one carrot. I drank water the whole night. As my niece and daughter were shucking the corn, one kernel broke about 3/4 the way down. I ate the 1/4 left raw. (There is no carbs during the first 17 days and I was on day 8). For dinner, they served corn with margarine, salad with feta on the side, dinner rolls, and chicken. I ate the salad (with dressing but no feta). I ate a thigh, minus the skin and 2 legs also minus the skin. emoticon I skipped the feta, bread, margarine and corn.

Then there was dessert. They had strawberries with whipped cream, a dark double chocolate cake from Costco and 2 kinds of ice cream. I decided it was Mother's day and I had a very small piece of cake, a few strawberries with whipped cream emoticon and less then half a scoop of both types of ice cream. emoticon Overall, I feel I did pretty good yesterday.

Although I "cheated", I also feel this is a lifestyle change and if I skip everything, I will binge later! What do you think?

I agree. I think about that a lot, I wont "never" eat hotdogs...so eating a hotdog is not cheating. This IS a life style change, and it;s not a life long restriction.

I think you did AWESOME considering all that delicious fattening food! GREAT JOB! emoticon

I also cheated a little on Mother's Day...I had bought a Lemon Meringue pie to take to my mom's (her absolute favorite) and I did have some. I am also doing the 17 day diet. But I do believe that you can still have your weak "moments" (as long as its not an entire pie!) but still ultimately stay on track. I am down over 10 lbs on my 12th day.

Totally agree with your reasoning Tova, this is a lifestyle and all things in moderation is a healthy outlook
Congrats making it through the day!

I have to agree with the other post, it is a lifestyle choice and depriving yourself will lead to binging later.....unless you have incredible willpower!! But I think you ate very well!! It`s not like you have desserts all the time and it was Mother`s Day so you have to have a treat:) I am glad you had a nice day!!

I think you did awesome! You work hard and deserve to reward and treat yourself occasionally. PLUS, look at the choices you made throughout the day. You could have had pancakes, but you didn't, you could have had the bagel and cream cheese but you didn't. You packed your water.
All of these little changes you make are what is making this a lifestyle vs. a diet.
YOU ARE CHANGING, not just the food you eat!
    Great job!

I think you did admirably! Why don't you just add another day to the first cycle. I'm curious to know if you got your cravings back. It's my biggest fear! I have put feta cheese on my salad several times. It's a low fat cheese!Like you said it's a lifestyle change. emoticon

You are correct, this is not a diet it is a life style change.
We are always going to have little slips as I do not know anyone on this site that walks on water.
Remember we will get to our goals one small step at a time.
