Me? A Runner?? Yeah, Right!

Well, today I did W1D1 (week 1 day 1) of the Couch to 5K program. I can't believe I did it. I have never been a runner. Even as a child I hated running. I guess it's something that has always been a mental block for me, but today I am a runner... well, more acurately, I'm on my way to being one.

For those unfamiliar with the program, it's nine weeks to get you from no activity to being able to run an entire 5K. Day one consists of a brisk 5 minute warm-up walk and then you alternate 60 seconds of running with 90 seconds of walking. You do that for 8 repetitions then do a final 5 minute cool down walk.

I was very unsure starting out how I would handle the whole thing and whether or not I would make it through the whole first set today. By the second run, I was feeling a little tight in my upper thighs, but by the third, that started to loosen up. Each run became a little less daughnting and by the seventh, I was really even starting to enjoy it. I upped my speed on the final run and even sprinted out the last 30 seconds. I felt really good when it was done. Better then I ever expected. I was so pumped I thought about repeating the whole program today, but I know not to push myself too much on something new. I will let the program work as intended. I will do the prescribed routines and let my body adjust to this level of activity at a healthy pace.

Right now I can't wait until day two...

Everything else has been pretty good. Nutrition in check, water intake just right, attitude where it needs to be, the sun is shining, life is good.
