So much fun!! 10 k Race Report

Monday, May 09, 2011

First of all, thanks so much for all of your support, SP friends! I felt encouraged and pumped up and ready to rock for my race on Saturday.

I use a RW app on my phone that had me at a goal pace of 9:01/mile and finish of 56:04. I knew that was going to be quite a stretch for me so had myself all psyched up to shoot for 9:10/mile, which still would have solidly beaten my old PR (59:22 in my first 10k last summer). The weather was perfect and it was an amazing stretch of almost entirely flat trail (slight grade on the way back, which I appreciated someone mentioning beforehand. It was gradual enough that it just felt a little harder, which I might have attributed to running out of gas if I didn't know it really was a slight uphill). Almost the entire way was along a river -- beautiful!!

Anyway, long story short=
54:42!!
1st in my age group! (40-49)

I will blog later about some of the other runners and how inspiring the whole thing was, from the size of the race (not sure of exact total, but less than a hundred runners) to the other runners. Good stuff. Good stuff.

Editing to add official results. Garmin was right on: 54:42 official time.
9/59 women (15%)
47/120 overall (39%)

A great benefit of small races, beyond easy parking and low fees = more likely to place!! Whoo-hoo!! As much as I do this as a challenge of me vs me, it sure is nice to get the occasional round of applause. ;)
