Going Meatless for a week......

Monday, May 09, 2011

Well, have you seen it? There is a new movie out about eating more veggies and fruits, and less, if not no, meat.

If you haven't heard of it, the movie is called Forks Over Knives. Here is the official web site:

I will probably see it if I have a chance and it comes to where I live, if not probably when it hits DVD. I've seen Food, Inc. and King Corn, both good movies on how diet effects us and I have done the Daniel Fast. My wife and I have always talked about moving to a more plant based diet... my only problem.... I don't care for veggies. Sure I like a good salad and the usual accompaniments, but things like kidney beans, brussel sprouts, mushrooms.... they just don't do anything for me. I do love fruit though, and I will probably exists on that for the week.

My wife could easily be a vegetarian... but I have agreed to go meatless for a week with her... she is also giving up dairy for the week as well. That's easy for her since she very rarely drinks milk and eats cheese.

What's the point of all this? This is going to be a tough week to get through. I know it is healthy, I know it is good for me, I know I will manage. But will I enjoy dinner time, will I sneak a ham sandwich for lunch.... I'm going to do my best not to, but I am not going to be miserable for a whole week. Sounds like I am making it ok to sabotage myself, and I'm really not, but I know if i don't give myself an out, I won't make it.

If nothing else, it will be interesting........

My vegetarian adventure ended fairly abruptly when I developed a sudden acute allergy to Soy and Quinoa.
Shame really, I enjoy the veggies.
