Week 18: Finally got this thing figured out

Friday, May 06, 2011

emoticon So the big news from my 30wk appt is that I'm only up 22lbs so far this pregnancy. I looked back at where I was with baby#1 and by 30wks, I was up 32lbs. So that's 10lbs less. emoticon The issue is that I can't get to comfortable yet and think that I can eat whatever I want (like I did last night). Nope I gotta keep this going because I've been feel great with no heartburn until last night and I had to sleep upright most of the night.

emoticon In my last few blogs, I've been complaining about how workout out is getting really hard for me. Well this week I had a breakthrough. I've wrapped my mind around the fact that I'm not working out to burn a certain number of calories and if I don't then the workout was useless. I'm working out to keep my body moving and prepared for labor. Labor is like putting your body through a marathon, so I have to train. At first I was thinking that it was useless to walk on the treadmill at 2.7mph and only burn like 150 calories. To me, that was a failure when I'm used to starting at 4.0mph and just going up from there. Now I focus on the fact that what I'm going is good for baby and mommy. Keeping mommy fit during pregnancy will help make labor go quicker (well at least that what I read) and it will help mommy recover faster. So a happy mommy makes a happier baby emoticon. Well I do have to confess that I still make it my goal to try to do at least 60 minutes, 3 times a week and aim to burn 300 calories at each session. It's totally doable. This way I have to push it just a tad bit but I definitely know when to slow down and take it easy.

emoticon I think I may be getting 3 more ultrasound before this pregnancy is over. I go next week to have them measure the fluid in the baby's kidneys which I'm kinda not sure why. I was told 2 weeks ago that everything was ok with the fluid level but the OB made it seem like it wasn't. But I will definitely ask a lot of questions about it at my next appt. She also wanted to check on the baby's growth. She said that this is the growth spurt period and that the rate of growth should slow down and then completely stop at 36 weeks. This is to prevent the baby from getting to big but my hubby is 6'2" tall.
I'll get another one to check on all of the internal organs and then another one at 36 weeks I believe to check on the baby's position. So I'm definitely thrilled to see baby so many times. Oh yeah, I was shocked when I asked her about doing the kick counts, she said to start at 32 weeks, then do them twice a day. Once first thing in the morning and the right before bed. I should get 5 movements in 1 hour. If first thing in the morning I don't, then have breakfast to wake the baby up and that should do the trick. Umm, I thought that kick counts started at the beginning of your 3rd trimester and it was 10 movements in 1 hour. I guess every OB is different.

Well that's enough for now. It's funny because every week I think that I don't have a lot to blog about. Then I start writing and I have to force myself to stop emoticon

I haven't been told to count kicks, but I sure have an active baby, so I am sure it would meet the minimum!
