Caution: Venting blog regarding my half marathon.....
Thursday, May 05, 2011
This is probably going to be one of my worst birthday's ever. It started out good and I was in a good mood but all that changed from one little email.
I received an email this morning stating that my half marathon, the one I have been looking forward to for months, has been cancelled. The park were the half was to be run is still closed due to flooding. I knew that this could be a possibility but with my half still weeks away I thought for sure it would be alright for running. If not, they would just change the course then, right. I was..... WRONG!
So all my excitement, my training, my anticipation about this day May 21 is all shot down. It was a huge blow for me this morning and brought my mood from happy to sad, disappointed, frustrated, angry, you name it.
This half marathon was very special race for me. It was not only my first half but my wedding anniversary weekend and my hubby was running it with me. (This is his first half too.) This half marathon was going to symbolize everything that I have worked towards. From re-learning how to run to working up to long distances. It was going to be my time to prove how far I have come with my running.
My friend that is running with me is equally upset. We both have been working so hard for this half marathon. We know that we can do it. We proved this past weekend with running 13 miles. We didn't go the full 13.1 because we were saving it for our race. But we have trained together for months.... preparing for this special day.
We will run on May 21 either way. But the thing about it is that we won't have the race adrenaline, the crowd of cheering people, and the race bib (which I do collect).
I know that there are other half marathons out there. But for today, I am not in the mood to even look at any. Sorry this is such a depressing blog..... especially after my happy blogs the past few days. I am just so disappointed........
I do have to end it on a good note.... something positive has to be written!
My daughter and I went for our bike ride yesterday afternoon. (My boys opted not to go.) I wore my Garmin watch to see exactly how far we would go and for the MPH we were biking. It was a slow ride, we ranged between 5 - 12 MPH. But we went 7.14 miles and my daughter made it the whole way! I was very proud for her making it this far. With the slow pace it took us 1:10 but she made it!
