Learning Curve

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

Every day is a new day, right? A learning experience. Well, this week didn't start off so hot. After class I decided on Monday that I should get some ice cream. I don't know why I decided this, but I did. I didn't make it two weeks without any sugar, only a little over a week. But, I rationalized to myself that I will be cutting nearly all sugar out of my diet for the longrun, so having a little every once in a while is OK. But it still broke my challenge, which sucks. And I shouldn't have bought the pint, I should have gotten a single cone. But, man, I love me some Sparkys (local ice cream joint). So, I learned my lesson, I ate the ice cream and I loved every bite of it. At least I didn't settle for the cheap crappy ice cream they were serving at work that day, I held out and waited for the yummy all natural ice cream of Sparkys. I didn't binge, I wanted more ice cream, but I didn't allow myself to eat until I was uncomfortable, which was a step in the right direction.

With mine and Bruce's Anniversary celebration this weekend, I am going to start that challenge again on Monday. I don't have a lot going on the next couple of weeks that makes me think that I will need to have sugar in my diet. It just means I really can't eat out. But I want to complete this challenge, and I want to continue to keep sugar to a minimum in all things I consume. I will not be eating sugar between now and Sunday, but Sunday will be a wine festival (literally) so I can't deny it's gonna happen.

Yesterday Bruce went with me out the new trail I discovered down the road from our house. We jogged most of the way, with walking breaks when we needed to. Then we hiked up the cliff and sat and enjoyed the view for a while. Considering how little Bruce was interested in going out there originally, he really enjoyed it. With jogging/walking there from the house, hiking and enjoying for a few minutes, and jogging/walking back home, we were gone for right at an hour. Not bad at all, and the weather was just perfect. Bruce's boss has decided that everyone in their office has to start working out at work again, which would be crappy except for the fact that we cancelled our gym memberships effective this Saturday. So we were going to start using the work gym again anyway. They need heavier kettlebells, as I discovered this morning, so I might just be bringing my own in to work and keeping them in a locker. I can't do much with a 10 pound kettlebell, I need some real weight baby!

It felt nice to workout first thing in the morning, I haven't had that workout schedule in a long time. I like working out in the evening so I can dump all of my aggravation from the day into it, but I can deal with this. It is only less than a month (YAY) until I don't have to rely upon work to make my schedule anymore. This afternoon I go to MU to register for my classes, and can we say EXCITED?! I am happy that I will know what my schedule is going to be like this summer once I get registered. There are so many positive things happening in my life right now, it is hard to stay irritated at the fact that I hate coming to work everyday. It's almost over!

I'm walking to campus this afternoon because it is only 1.6 miles away. I am looking forward to that being my main means of transportation for the summer, as long as the weather is permitting. It just makes sense, both for environmental reasons and health reasons. Why not get an extra workout in whenever I can? Oh, yesterday was 100% vegetarian as well, so that was great! Today shall be the same. Tomorrow night is our actual Anniversary, so we are cooking a mussel pasta for dinner (yummy!), but then I won't have meat again until Sunday dinner at one of the wineries. I am pretty sure some of the food they will be serving with wine will have meat in it, and I am not going to turn away my free food. I am not quite there yet. :) But I am learning, every day from each choice that I make, I am learning more about myself and how I can improve on the person that I am.

It's fun! Keep on smiling, fellow Sparkers!

You're doing great! Don't worry too much about the occasional sugar indulgence. Congratulations to you and Bruce on your upcoming anniversary. By the way, where is this Sparky's Ice Cream? Sounds like some good stuff.

Sounds like a plan! Just remember you can't deprive yourself totally, so good job on your choices to get good icecream. :)

Don't beat yourself up about ice cream. If you enjoyed it and it satisfied that voice in your head, then fine. You can't cut out everything! I think it's great you went a week without sugar. Better than I could do.

Working out the morning feels great. Keep up the awesome work!!!

    Mussels!! MMMMMM!

    Congrats on your anniversary. Wow!

My eating has totally been in the dustbin for ages. Really, really, really bad. I don't even want to say what I've been eating (am tracking) on here cos I don't want anybody to think, 'Mmm, good idea!'

Hey a pint is better than a quart! Progress not perfection. I find if I ban foods I want them even more. I'm super impressed with your entire week without sugar!

Keep up the great work! Have a fantastic week!
