I can't stop eating!!

Monday, May 02, 2011

I just want to share my big problem! I am always hungry! Way can't I just eat and feel full. I always think about food. As soon as I finish eating breakfast, lunch or diner. I am already thinking of what I am going to eat next. I wish I could stop thinking about food. emoticon
What can I do about this?

There could be a number of things going on.

One could be WHAT you are eating. Sometimes we eat, but they aren't filling, sustaining foods. If you start the day with a good breakfast - perhaps porridge or some good quality whole-grain bread (high fibre, low fat and sodium) and protein like an egg or baked beans etc., you may find that you are fuller for longer, therefore focus less on food.

Ensuring you have healthy ready "go to" snacks on hand is a good idea. A hard boiled egg, or a cold baked potato (the GI is lower when it is cold) are really good. Protein or good quality carbs help you to remain full for longer. If you must nibble all the time, ensure it is low calorie stuff like a little bag of celery sticks and carrot sticks.

Another thing going on could be your general relationship with food as a whole. Sometimes we can benefit from Therapy with a therapist who specializes in eating issues. We let our emotions direct us to eat to "feel good" but in fact it has the opposite effect.

I wish you well and am sure that by reading the articles on SP you will find what works for you, best!

Snacks, gum, and water! It may seem counterintuitive, but healthy snacking helps keep the urges away. Baby carrots, granola, yogurt, all these things are great healthy snacks. If you're only eating 3x a day it's easy to "build yourself up" for the next meal and obsess over it. However, if you're eating smaller meals 5x+ a day, you won't have nearly as much time to fixate on the next meal. Also, you'll be eating more frequently so that helps the hunger.

I'm a little worried about you feeling hungry all the time though. You shouldn't feel hungry while eating within your range. What kinds of foods are you eating? I know that it's really easy to eat your meal's worth of calories in crappy foods and feel starved an hour later. Whereas I find that if I cook with whole grains and raw food, I'll eat and feel full.

The key for me is the importance of drinking extra water. But I also keep sliced fruit handy like strawberries, blueberries,& as of late a pear sliced for those moments when I feel hungry. Throw in an exercise video to keep active & take the thought of food away. emoticon emoticon
