My annual blog entry update

Monday, April 25, 2011

I just read what I wrote over a year ago. I kept up with that eating habit for the most part. I had gotten very into jogging/running with my dog and completed my first 5k run/walk on July 4th 2010. 4 days later, I found out some news that would change everything.

I was pregnant! My husband and I were so excited. That first week we bought fresh fruits and veggies, and I kept up with my jogging. Then the fatigue and horrid morning sickness persisted the next 10 weeks. I couldn't eat what I once loved to. I pretty much ate anything I could keep down. And exercising? Ha, no. Between feeling so sick and exhausted, I wasn't about to try.

My little boy arrived at 41 weeks via c-section on March 21st, 2011. The last couple months I blew up like a balloon. I couldn't wear my shoes anymore. It sucked. I also packed on close to 70 pounds, about 30 of which was fluid retention. I was down 35 pounds 2 weeks after leaving the hospital. Since then (3 weeks), I have lost another 8. I'm very, very lucky to have experienced a SUPER easy recovery. I know it doesn't go well for everyone, and I'm very thankful it has gone great for me.

That weight loss feels good, but I still have more to go. I'm about 3 weeks away from going back to work. Right now, it's easy to get the foods I want and exercise I want (we go for brisk hour long walks about 5 days a week), but I'm starting to plan for when I do go back to work, and have to juggle eating right (and eating enough to still breastfeed to his needs), exercising, working, mommyhood and can't forget my marriage.

I know it's possible, women have done it before. I just have to figure out how it'll work for ME. And that's why I'm back on. I think my biggest challenge will be eating habits. I believe 80% of weight loss is eating habits. It'll take a lot of planning and prep work, but if I can get through that first month, I think it'll become second nature.

And... go.
