My Lunch Time Streak
Tuesday, April 19, 2011
I committed myself some time ago to take a walk outside the office at lunchtime whenever the weather permits. I only have 30 minutes for lunch, so I monitor how long I’m out by checking my watch and turning around when I’ve been walking about 7 to 8 minutes bringing my mid-day Spark Streak to 15 minutes.
Today, our area is enjoying cool but sunny weather. As I walked through the neighbourhood I met people who were out and about doing yard work, bringing parcels in from their cars and some who were just enjoying the sunshine. Everyone I passed had a smile on their face. And even though I felt like just walking my afternoon away, I dutifully headed back at 12:08.
The fifteen minute walk break rejuvenates me and allows me to shed whatever stress my shoulders accumulated during the morning and the fresh air makes me more alert. The afternoon will fly by relatively stress-free.
Its amazing that 15 minutes of something as simple as walking can do so much with so little effort.
