I am back once again

Monday, April 18, 2011

Must seem like I dropped off the face of the earth after my 5k. The injury put me on crutches for a week. I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I went through 3 weeks of therapy to relieve the excrutiating pain. About a week after the therapy ended, I was attempting to start some sort of exercise routine again and I managed to get in one morning. Later that evening, I was rushed to the ER. I had a horrible pain in my abdomen. I was diagnosed as having a bowel obstruction. I was admitted in the hospital and stayed in for 4 days. Seems that since I had my colon removed 8 yrs ago, I really shouldn't eat raw carrots. Since being released, I have not felt like myself. I haven't had any energy and am tired all the time. I used to wake up at 5 am every morning, but lately, I have been lucky to drag my butt out of bed at 6 am.
Two weeks ago, I walked 3 miles in the park while DS was at soccer practice. Last week, I attempted running again. It wasn't a good idea, but I knew when to stop this time. My foot hurt pretty bad for a few days.
Last night, I decided that I was determined to get out of my slump. I woke this morning at 5 am and vowed to get in at least 10 minutes on the treadmill. Low and behold, I made it to 30 minutes and did get in at least 10 minutes of running in 5 minute intervals. It may not be outdoors, but the treadmill is much easier on my foot than the road or sidewalk.
Starting today, I vow to start each day with a minimum of 10 minutes of physical activity in the morning and to end the day with a minimum of 10 minutes each evening. I allowed myself to gain 10 lbs since the end of February. I need to reverse this. I know I can!!

Wow, considering what you have been through, you are one tough cookie to come back and work out like that. WTG! I have plantar fascitis also, and I know how badly that hurts-- take your time. The tummy stuff can also get you down, but it sounds like you are overcoming it. I am in Lafayette if you want to talk or walk (but I probably couldn't keep up with you, lol). Good luck and congratulations for your comeback!-- Lois
