My take on Pittsburgh’s Just Another Short Race ( JASR)

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Well, to keep it really simple, I had a blast!!
Okay, for a few more details..Met some wonderful people ( fellow Sparkers).
The local contingent was friendly, funny and very welcoming..BobbyD when I saw you in a pink tutu, I knew I was among friends 
I arrived too late to catch the Friday night dinner, but was actually in the same restaurant! If only I had walked a little farther through…
Saturday dawned sunny, but oh so cold! I was nervous. I had run 5K before, but I have not been running for several weeks due to a knee injury..Would I be able to do it? Would I re-injure?
Met at the Rose Barn with all the other Sparkers..great idea..Got some great pictures..Wonderful keepsakes, and got to stay warm before the start!!.
The course itself was a challenge. That first hill..Wow! I almost stopped and went home..
I actually took a picture on my phone. In SW Ontario, we just don’t get hills like that!
It was quite a sight to see 2500 runners snake their way up and out of sight..
Met a fellow Canadian Sparker ( shout out there GoeGirl!) and was given a beautiful felt patch in the shape and colours of the SparkPeople logo..Thanks Britt & Bonnie..What a keepsake..and it was wonderful to be able to spot other Sparkers through the race course. I enjoyed chatting with you at the start ..
Janice thanks so much for taking the pictures..I don’t have any others of me actually running. Can’t say I present an attractive view when running, but it’s me in action:-p
Made a respectable time, but most important, I finished.
It was fun to cheer others on..Mega congrats Bill on finishing that 30K. What an accomplishment!
I couldn’t make the lunch..was just too tired..hit the hottub and pool for some r&r.
The post race event at Second Sole was a nice touch. Thanks to Jen and her staff ( and Bobby, Ann , Jan). I wish I was just a little braver to approach those I hadn’t met yet, but that will be my goal next year.
My big thrill was meeting Coach Nancy and Coach Nicole..in real life. ..Cool!
I have made lots of new Spark friends..and look forward to keeping in touch and cheering them on through their journeys..I am re-energized and ready to tackle these last stubborn 20 lbs.
To anyone reading this who has the opportunity to attend an event where other Sparkers are meeting I say GO! It’s an experience to remember.

I was pumped to meet Coach Nicole, I missed Coach nancy. I was also too shy to introduice myself to people. Next year Ia m going to work on being friendlier...or more outgoing.

Great to read others accounts of the weekend.

You did great! I always say that it's not about the time on the course, but having the guts to show up. I'm glad that you and your 2 guys were able to make it and it was a pleasure to meet you all. Walking into a group of us who've known each other for years is overwhelming for anyone (just look at a majority of others blogs), but I think everyone found people to hang with. The next time it'll be just like old times with good friends.

From all the pictures I saw of you I'd say you're quite striking! Don't sell yourself short. Thanks for the shout out in your blog. I hope that we'll all be able to do lunch on May 15th after my marathon. I'll keep you in the loop of the where and when.

I did not have a chance to meet you but I am thrilled that you were a part of a very special weekend. This the second time I have personally been with several of the Ohio/PA are Sparkers and it was like old home week. It is my hope that you also have another chance yourself to get together with Spark buddies. There will never be a more understanding and awesome bunch. See you again next year? I certainly hope so!!!
