Germs and sweat

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Today I had a really good workout. I felt like my cardio was up a notch in intensity and my weight lifting was focused but I got distracted too. Gyms are kind of nasty places sometime. Every one there sweats, some people (guys esp.) to the point of dripping all over the place and looking truly disgusting. UGH! We all sit on and touch the same machines and weights all day and today that got almost too disgusting for me. By nature I don't sweat a lot and I am pretty tidy in my habits at the gym. I hope this was a passing thing though. I don't want to decide I am too grosse out by the sweat and germs to work out anymore. I just struck me as really icky today.

I don't do the gym thing at all but hear the same complaints from my sister in the UK.
I think she uses wet wipes or such before she uses a piece of equipment etc.

I love my gym. We have spray bottles of sanitizer for the machines and a towel at each one. People are supposed to clean them after they use them. Before is a good idea too if you are worried. There is no way I would work out as hard at home as at the gym. You can get germs in the grocery stores, dr. office, work, church and just about anywhere. I don't think the gym is any more prone than those places.

Sorry about your snow. It missed us this time.

There is something that could be much worse about the sweat- if its infectious. In the very first gym I went to when I was 22, I picked up a permanent, lifetime mold affliction on my hands. It flares when I get too much moisture on my hands like washing a lot during the day (I am not prone to sweat either). So someone else's sweat had infected me :(( So I don't give it to anyone, I always wear gloves, but that really ticked me off and turned me off gyms. I prefer my home workouts using DVD's and my elliptical.

I know what you mean, and men are the worst at NOT cleaning the equipment after they use it. I always do, and actually we should clean it Before we use it, as a precaution.

Not much we can do about it, except make our own gym at home. I love working out at the gym and wonder sometimes if that is where I get my germs when I'm not feeling well, twice this year?

Hard to say, but I'll keep going.

    Have a great day!
