Put it in writing!

25 days ago I noticed my dear friend SUGARBEHONEYPIE write "Day 1 of my 27 day 'Boot it into Spring' Bootcamp Challenge". Of course I wondered what that was and asked her about it as I'm sure other friends did. And every day since then there's a new status with the days advancing. She's now at 25 Days. Am I excited for her? You bet! Am I proud of her? You better believe it!

I was also impressed, and more than that, I was inspired. She sparked me to start my own streak. I would be leaving for a trip to NYC in 31 days so I'd step it up by doing a 30 Day Gym Streak.

But I didn't just keep this to myself. Nope. I put it as my status. It's out there, in writing, in black & white (or light purple & dark purple.) Today was to be Day 10, a third of the way there! So I'm sitting at my daughter's rehearsal & my nose starts running. By the time I get home I'm sneezing my head off & have a headache. What to do, what to do? My DD says, "guess that's the end of your gym streak."

But I put it in writing! My friends are cheering me on; I can't stop now. So I put on my workout clothes & decide I'll go do 20 minutes. I end up doing 65. My heart rate is in the target zone. I work up a sweat. I continued my streak.

So here's the point. Decide to do something to move yourself along your journey but PUT IT IN WRITING. Put it out there for your friends to see. Don't keep it to yourself. Because words have power and sharing your intentions makes you want to stick to them. Write that you'll reduce your soda intake each day or you'll walk for 15 minutes or you'll track your food. Don't write about losing a certain amount of weight in a certain amount of time because that's outside your control. Pick something you can control. Who knows? It might become a permanent change or a permanent habit. At the end of the 30 days will I be more inclined to go to the gym every day? Probably because it will be a part of my routine.

I've also put in writing that this is the last time I'm losing this weight. I'm committed to SP & my SparkFriends for the long haul. I'm here to support them as they're here to support me in working towards goals. Some friends will reach their goals before I do and I will reach my goals before some other friends but that doesn't matter. I'm committed to staying here through maintenance; my friends and my own. And you can see that it writing!

And who knows who you'll "spark" to make a change that could be meaningful to them?

    Your right... it is better not to say I'll lose this weight by this time, because there is no guarentee... it is better to start a streak of a good habit... now you have inspired me... I'll will think about my upcoming streak.

    You're doing so great on your challenge! It's absolutely true about putting it out there, in writing. First thing each morning, I log in and spin the wheel (LOL) then update my status. Always. So there it is, and I have the whole day, but I won't go to bed until I've fulfilled my challenge to myself. I don't want to let myself down, OR my friends. The people here have become like family. It's like having our dearest loved ones cheering us on. You are an awesome Sparkfriend and a true inspiration to me. I find that you are always thinking of others, and encouraging friends and strangers (soon to become friends) along the way. You seem to know just what to say, and that is such a gift. I'm a slow-poke loser, so it's sure great to know that you'll be waiting for me at my finish line-as we'll all be there for yours. It's in writing-we'll all see this through to the finish line-together! Spark strong, sister.

    Inspiring!!! I am so on the same page as you. My whole attitude shifted as soon as I committed to myself to blog every day. Sometimes I would wonder what to blog about - but because I never wanted to miss a day, I came up with something! Putting things down on paper just makes them more real.
    You are right! We ARE cheering you on!!! I am SO happy you made it to the gym - I often feel better after I exercise when I have a cold... so it was a great move as far as I'm concerned!
