Injured, Not Benched! (+ a Jillian Question)

Saturday, March 12, 2011

So here I sit rolling a frozen can of beans under my foot as I type this. I'm so glad I went to the podiatrist yesterday for my plantar fasciitis, among other things I had questions about! I knew I had low arches, but he said my feet are "flat", which I thought only applied to my brother and my husband. Hubby has been wearing orthotics in his shoes for years, but I just learned that I should have been as well! Doc gave me some along with a cortisone shot and said ice, NSAIDs, and stretching. This I knew for the most part. Also no walking, running, jumping, ..... anything impactful basically. Bike or elliptical is okay, but I don't have easy access to either.

The last time this happened to me years ago I was running and I let it stop me and I gained weight back and gave up. THIS TIME I'm gonna keep going the best way I can.

I have been doing Jillian Michaels Workout DVDs which seem to be the easiest thing for me to do as a stay-at-home mom of an almost 10 month old. I also have a treadmill that has become more of a coat rack since I haven't been able to use it much in the last couple of months for fear of worsening my injury.

Jillian's workouts seem to be mostly safe for my foot (I'm doing the low-impact modifications, which still in fact have impact) compared to walking or running so I have been doing these daily for about the last 3 weeks. They make me feel awesome and I'm dripping after only 20 minutes! The only ones I've done, however are 30 Day Shred and 6Wk 6Pack Level 1.

Does anyone know if some of these are more low impact than others that might be easy on my foot until it heals?

These are the DVDs I have:

30-Day shred
6wk 6pack
Banish Fat Boost Metabolism
No More Trouble Zones
Ripped in 30

Also, let me know if you have a favorite workout of these or if you have any imput or results to share from doing these workouts! I haven't done them all yet but I'd love to hear some opinions from anyone who has tried them!

Thanks for any and all advice!

Hiya, you may find No More Trouble Zones to be easier on your foot. Other than the warm-up there is not much jumping around. The focus is more on strength training and there is actually a lot of mat work (leg lifts etc.)
    Good luck!
