Striving for my daily deficit

Friday, March 11, 2011

So, using Sparkpeople's reports, I figured out that all I need to do to burn 2 pounds a week is to have a 700 calorie deficit 7 days a week. I can do this with careful planning. I am planning out my menu and tracking before I eat, so that I am sure of what I need to consume, and burn inorder to succeed. I can eat 1550 calories a day if I burn 400 through exercise. I have noticed that my sparkfriends who are succeeding with their weightloss all have a precise plan, and they are sticking to it. I am going to join the ranks of those who are succeeding. I will succeed! I will stick with my plan, and I will get down to my goal weight. I will not be depriving myself. I will eat what I want, within reason. The only constraint is that I will be keeping my intake at 1550 calories, or below. I can have cookies, if I plan for them. Planning is the key!

Planning is so key! I LOVE the trackers on here, they make it so easy. I put in what I am planning as far as meals go, to see how much of each item at meal time I can have to meet my goals, it def works and helps me feel in control of my health and life and weight loss! Congrats girl!

This is TOTALLY doable, and a great plan! Remember you can also adjust day to day -- perhaps you know you'll have a huge meal on Friday, so do a bit more exercise throughout the week to build up that deficit. And don't get depressed if you don't hit your target everyday; it's all about it adding up over the week/month/year. The way I've been doing my sticky-note on the wall thing, I just take down what I did the day before, not stressing if it's one, two, or three stickies. Or zero, on Saturday. :) (get in my belly, ginger spice cookies!) I love looking at weight loss through numbers -- it takes the mystery right out of it! You WILL make it to your goal!

Okay, so as BrewmasterBill pointed out, I miscalculated. OOPS! emoticon I think I will stick with my 700 calorie deficit, and expect a little slower weight loss. I will add in a cheat meal a week, so that I bring my calories up to 2000 once a week. Should I be doing anything differently than this? I am always open to suggestions.

Well, a 700 calorie per day deficit is not 2 pounds. 500 calories per day is one pound per week, 2 pounds per week would be 1,000 per day. I don't recommend it. Keep your def @ 700, but just be prepared to lose a little less. It's not a race though.

One thing - eventually your body is going to become used to your calorie deficit and will stop losing weight because of it. So schedule some "cheat" meals or "refeeding" meals in there somewhere, where you eat a lot more than 1550 calories. This will help re-set your fat burning hormones like leptin and keep things going. I know that sounds crazy, but science has proven this time and again.

Good luck! You can do it!
