A few things that worked for this momma

Saturday, March 05, 2011

well here are some suggestion of things that worked for me.

Ask yourself am I really committed to making this change. I found in my past that I never had success because I wanted a short term easy fix. Yeah it doesn't work that way. losing weight takes time and commitment and it's for life. you have to keep up your healthy habits or you will end up where you started or worse. if you cant commit there is no point in starting. I know that doesn't sound very supportive and maybe counter productive but I think most will agree.

Once you do decide you are on board 110% make a goal/plan. Pick a small goal. if you have 20lbs to lose focus on getting to 10lbs and then readjust your goals if need be to what is more realistic.

GET RID OF YOUR VICES!!!! get it out of the house and don't let it back in. do some grocery shopping and bring in healthy snack so that when you do feel weak or hungry the only thing you can snack on or cook will be good for you. You will be hungry for the first week. This is normal.

Drink lots of water ( 8ounces a day of water 8x's or more) spread it out.

For me tracking my calories is a must.

Learn portion sizes. I was over eating and putting way to many calories on my plate.

when you're ready start off with some walking. when you feel confident get a work out dvd. maybe join a zumba class or gym.

cut your sodium.

As a mom this is hard to do but get some good sleep. I find it so hard to stay motivated when I am tired.

if you do have to go eat out check out the nutritional menu online and decide in advance what your healthiest option is.

These are just a few things that worked for me. I was able to drop 42 lbs in a few months doing these things. You start finding out also what works for you as you go along.

So hope this may help anyone starting out. Good luck on your journey.

Thanks for reminding me of my own goals. It seems I forget about things until I read it from someone else!

Shortly, it depends. Are you really "living" your life? i felt my choices were living me and not the other way around i was tired and so unhappy with what i was doing that i really wasn't enjoying my life at all.

if you are happy with yourself and just dont feel you can put that much into it I understand. i was that way several times before but eventually it caught up with me and it stopped being fun.

what ever you decide I wish you the best! thanks for commenting.

Absolutely glassyjen! actually that's what i did. i started just changing my portions and what i ate first. I did that for about 3-4 wks and was able to lose any where from 2-4 lbs/wk just doing that in those first few weeks. I was shocked how just that one change had made such an impact. then i started with work out videos. I didnt have time and the extra $ at the time to start a gym. By all means start small but just start. it can be over whelming and you dont want to get so over whelmed you quit. Good luck and thank you for taking the time to comment on my post!

I so totally agree with your suggestions and I have to work on a few but doing well in the other areas. Starting small I believe is the key because then I don't feel like I am try to do to many things all at once and the new habits seem to stick. Thanks for sharing this post!! Hope you have a great weekend!!
