Home stretch to next Half - random report

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

I ran 8 miles yesterday, with 4 fast (for me) mile repeats and 1/2 mile cooldowns in between. Felt great up until the last repeat when my right knee started really complaining. I stopped and put on my runner's knee strap on my right knee and slowed down considerably to the end. Normally I run with straps on both knees but am experimenting with running without them. Easy runs go fine but yesterday was a definite fail. Besides the fact that I should've started out with the knee straps, I also ran the repeats way too fast. Today my left kneecap feels bruised and when I walk up and down stairs it hurts. I don't have a run scheduled for today (2-3 miles easy on tap for tomorrow). I slept in today and will have a short KB workout this afternoon before teaching Holy Yoga.

Speaking of sleep.... Oh my goodness it makes so much difference to have a decent night's sleep! I am praying for good sleep from now up until the Half, since I know I won't sleep well the night before.

I am trying to cut back on the diet Dr. Pepper. Ugh. I love me some diet Dr. Pepper!

Plan for the next 24 days (race is 3/26):

4 runs per week: 3 miles easy, 7-8 miles tempo, 3 miles easy, 10-11 miles long.
2-3 KB workouts per week (20 minutes each).
2 yoga classes per week, plus gentle yoga and foam roller each night before bed.
Get lots of sleep!

I don't know how much difference it will make but I am also going to try to get some of my runs in ealier in the day. I have been running midday or afternoon during the week and midday on Saturday, but the race has a 7 am start. I want to see how it feels to get going early again. I have had a lazy winter as far as that goes.
