I was talking with a friend the other day and the topic of habits and working out came up. We discussed how it has been said that it takes 21 days (or 3 weeks) to form a habit. That got me thinking. So many of the challenges on Spark People are 28 days, 2 months, 3 months, etc. I've been somewhat out of the game (as opposed to how much I used to be with exercising, counting calories and whatnot) for a while now and I've been trying for the past several months to find a good way to fully get myself back on track again.
So, after said discussion, I've come upon an idea of a new (shorter) challenge than what I'm used to. Normally, I'll start a challenge and then follow it through pretty well, but the past few I've tried to do I've started out strong then fizzled out. And after 2 or so years on Spark the great motivation it used to give me has somewhat fizzled out as well. It has pretty much become a chore and just one more thing I have to do when I get online for the day. So this is where the '21 Days' comes in... I will try to spend the next 21 days trying to get back on track and finding new and fun ways to keep myself motivated for the long run once again (not without the help of SP of course ;) ) I'm just going to attempt to figure out what is best for me and what I would be able to stick to the best like I used to. It's crazy how when you fall off the band wagon for a bit it's kinda hard to remember how you used to do things.
I'm on Day 2 right now and working on just keeping calories in check and incorporating a LOT more strength training because according to the trainer I talked with I wasn't getting nearly enough of it. From experience, getting through to Day 4 is usually the hardest for me, but I'm working on it! We'll see how things are going by the end of the first week...*fingers crossed*

No need for the fingers to be crossed because you don't need luck you have power. You can do this. I was the same way. I started the Spark around the same time that you joined and it dwindled away rather quickly. This time around I am much more motivated and it was not until this month that I was able to start focusing on exercisiing regularly. I really tried before but I did not have it in me. Like you said, it needs to be routine. I know that you can do this and I am fighting the urge to splurge with you. Keep up the efforts. You are awesome.
