Shoveling my way out of a record MN winter

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

* Note to self: Since you decided not to bail on this state and move to the desert just because you hate driving in cruddy winter weather, you need to buy a pair of boots, a new jacket, snowpants, and other winter gear.

Ok, so back in December, our local newspaper said that if we got ten more inches of snow this winter, it would be a record year for snowfall. Well, we surpassed that and then some. I've honestly lost count what we've gotten, but at the time we were already at 50 inches.

This past Sunday, we got another 15 with high winds, a.k.a. a blizzard.

Now, if I am honest with myself, I know there are few workouts better then shoveling snow. It's cardio and strength training all in one. In the 1.5 hours of shoveling this morning of snow up to my waist, I burned well over 1,000 calories. Now that's a WORKOUT. I'm not complaining spring is almost here, but sometimes I feel like this:

Here are some pictures of the last storm:

I still have a good 2 hours of shoveling left:

Midwesterners, repeat after me: spring is almost here, spring is almost here....

What is there left to say?
Love your blog, your pictures and the Minnesota song was GREAT!

The only wish I have for you is that it's at least cold enough to be POWDER snow!

Here on the Wet Coast (at sea level at least) our snow often comes when it is just above freezing (33-34) or it changes back and forth from rain to snow. THAT makes the white stuff a might bit heavy.
